JCW JCW hood scoop - how to install???
JCW hood scoop - how to install???
Thinking of getting a JCW carbon fiber hood scoop for my '08 MY/B MCS JCW (stage I engine and aero body kits), and installing it myself.
In looking at the underside of my bonnet, it seems to be just a matter of a few screws.
Can anyone telll me if it's more involved than that?
Thanks, in advance, for your help.
P.S. Would also like to know what's involved in putting carbon fiber mirror caps on in place of the black ones that came with my Mini.

I couldn't help you with the scoop (I only have a Cooper), but I switched out my stock mirror caps with the checkered design ones, and saved myself the hourly rate with the DIY technique.
I was warned about breaking the clips (when taking off the originals), and put some extra care into it with success.
My Method:
Around the perimeter of the cap, there are several clips that attach the cap to the plastic "arm and mirror surround" or "housing" of the mirror unit its self. If you move the mirror to the extreme up, down, left, and right, you should be able to see the clips looking behind the mirror. Get a long thin screw driver and lift the latches while pulling the cap away from the housing. Don't try and pry away the cap from the exterior of the housing... it's useless and just leaves some marks, it has to be done from behind the mirror.
If you want to take it to the next level, I saw a post a week or so ago about removing the actual mirror to get full access to the clips... but it can be done without doing that, just with more time and patience.
Off the top of my head, I can't remember the post, but maybe someone else can post a link.
Hope this helps.

Careful with the mirror caps...I've heard of a handful of people who have broken the clips or cracked the mirror when replacing. Guess they are very touchy.
The dealer didn't charge me for install on the mirror caps. Guess they even cracked one of the mirrors when doing it and had to replace it!!
Good luck!

Here's a link on how to do the mirror caps w/out breaking clips. This is for an R53 though...
