steering wheel trim

I've been searching to no avail and haven't found the answer I need. It's about time I go on ahead and paint my steering wheel trim ring. Once you pull the air bag off, is there a way to pry the ring off from behind, or do you have to do a good job of masking the air bag unit and paint it while it is still attached? I just want to know before I pull the air bag unit off. Thanks for any help.

When I did mine I ended up pulling off the air bag and then masking the outside diameter and the inner diameter really good. Make sure you take your time as I tended to rush mine toward the end. Nice job for a rainy day.

Hey thanks for the help. I'll do just like you said. It kind of sucks it can't come off as I like to put my parts in the oven. Thanks again for the response.
