Advice: 2007 or 2008 Mini Cooper Convertible?

Hi everyone. I've been reading the posts for about a week and am finally ready to post. After reading and learning, I can't wait to be a MINI owner.

I've decided on getting a MINI Cooper Convertible. I live in Southern California and have been to several dealerships where I see 2007 and 2008 cars on the lots. Any idea on whether the 2007 cars are being discounted? If so, how much?

If I were to lease, would it make sense to lease a 2007 or 2008? Or would the differences in discount (assuming there are some) on the 2007 be offset by the higher residula on the 2008?

I haven't begun negotiating with any of the dealers yet. I want to be as informed as possible before doing that.

Howdy neighbor!

I don't think that there is too much discounting going on yet for the 2007 rag tops, since they are virtually identical (if I remember correctly) to the 2008. I think it would be a matter of finding a car on a lot that you like, with the options and color you like vs. ordering a new one from the factory and waiting a few weeks for delivery.

Keep us informed as you proceed, and congrats on your choice! This is a wonderful place to drive topless....

There is very little difference between the two years. We have an 07 and 08 and we have looked long and hard to find any change at all. The power fold side mirrors is the biggest diff. Like homer said buy the one you like!

According to my MA, the tire pressure monitor is different also. Prior to 08 the monitor worked by measuring the rotational speed of the wheels, but in 08 they installed pressure monitors.

You may want to take over a lease. I took over a lease on Swap-A-Lease. The MINI S convertible I found was local and a 2006 with Premium, Convenience, Sport, Leather, Chrono, Rear fog, Automatic, Two-piece web spoke wheels, and 18K miles with 20 months left on the lease. I pay $500 a month for the 20 month balance left on the lease with no money down.
