OAHU TRACK NEWS
OAHU TRACK NEWS
I thought I'd share this e-mail I got:
----------------
ALOHA From Ed Hollmann Hawaii Region, Sports Car Club of America (SCCA)
As all of you know Hawaii Raceway Park was closed about 2 years ago. Various groups or individuals have been trying to locate or obtain a new track with no success.
The Hawaii Region has decided to take the bull by the horns and hire, with the help of the racing community, a professional lobbyist to convince our State legislature to adopt a bill to get us a track, whether it be temporary or permanent.
It is now the time for the sports car racers, drag racers, motorcycle racers (drag and road racers), drifters, go cart racers, junior dragsters, Pro Gas drag racers, and dirt track racers to step forward to move the process along.
SCCA has contacted one of the best lobbyists in the State (i.e. recently handled the Super Ferry legislation), and the estimated cost to assist us with this effort is $7500.
SCCA is willing to advance some of the money needed and is asking for contributions from the other organizations, individuals, and businesses in the racing community to help with the rest.
The lobbyist will be at the session every day for 4 months. He will help propose legislation that will work toward our goal and will monitor some other legislation that is already being proposed with the same goal---a track on Oahu. He will contact us about appearing at hearings, about sending emails and letters to our representatives, and generally will guide us through the process.
So the question is are you willing to help. If so, please contact me immediately because the Legislative Session is coming up quickly. We want to have this lobbyist retained by January 11.
Ed Hollman. Regional Executive SCCA Hawaii Region
488-1782 or email address eahjr@hawaii.rr.com
PLEASE PASS THIS EMAIL ON ANY ONE YOU KNOW IN THE RACING COMMUNITY WHO MIGHT WISH TO HELP.
