R50/53 Should I take my MINI for dealer service
Should I take my MINI for dealer service
Hi NAM Motorers!
I am asking for advice. I have a MCS 2006 with less than 5K on the odometer. According to the computer when I tur up the engine, it says that the oil life of the MINI is close to 6K more miles. Should I take it to the dealer for an oil change just because it has been more than a year with the current one? Thanks for your help

If PR has the same 36month free maintenance plan, the dealer will change the oil once a year whether you've reached the mileage hurdle or not.
Definitely want to change it one way or the other.

If it's more than a year, the dealer is supposed to change the oil regardless of what the service indicator says.
I hit my first year waaay before my first scheduled service. What my dealer did was a "low mile oil service". All they did was change the oil. They did not reset the service indicator and did not performed the normal first service such as replacing the cabin filter.
When my service indicator was down to 1,000 miles to go about 7 months later, they performed the first service. They changed the oil, replaced the cabin filter and other inspection. Then they reset the service indicator.

Yes, I always thought that the 1 year oil change was a myth or an urban legend. I was proven wrong however when I asked my service tech buddy. The only bad thing is that the car was in for warranty work a few weeks before the oil change and they did not suggest it! You must tell them that you want it or they won't do it!
