1966 Bathurst Winning Morris MINI Cooper
1966 Bathurst Winning Morris MINI Cooper
Does anyone know anything about the livery on the 1966 Bathurst winning Morris Mini Cooper? I just got the 1:18 model and my wife says, "That's cute! What's with the red stickers?"
The big "C" is the class. In the 60s, CAMS (Confederation of Australian Motor Sport) broke up the racers into classes based on engine size. In 1966's Gallaher 500 (as the Bathurst race was known then), Minis took the 1st 9 places. The winning Mini was driven by one of the Flying Finns, Rauno Aaltonen and local driver Bob Holden.
I'm not sure about the red dots, but I think they might have been to help distinguish the different Minis. There were so many in the race that year. The ones on the roof could read 13 if you look at the car from the (Aussie) driver's side.
