BRAKE PAD SENSOR WENT OFF TODAY

Hey folks, so I was driving my 2005 MCS today and my brake pad sensor light went off. And I'm like ohhhh So I am a little confused I've only put about 1,400 miles on these pads and theyre already dangerously thin. I have been driving like Michael Schumacher on a daily basis but only on my 20min commute to work (which is kind of like the opening scene of office space) and a couple of threshold stops from around 60mph and one at 90. So does this sound like maybe I should slow down or do you guys think the sensor might be wrong? My first autocross event is this coming weekend so I am def. going to take it down to the deal anyway. Does anyone know what the BMW warranty deal covers in terms of brake pads? Any help or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated.

take a look at how much pad is actually left. the sensors go off when the wear is down to approx 3/16" left on the pad.

i had about 1/8" left on my rears and i still ran autox knowing that i was going to change them out the day after.

if youve only put 1400 miles on since your last full set of pads and your car is putting out the low brake warning then either your sensor is tweaked, youre braking too hard, or something is wrong with your ABS im not sure but that doesnt sound right at all

Something is wrong. It may have to do with the pad change. Did you change the sensor or just put on new pads? What kind of pads? Who did it, you or someone else?

I would be very surprised if you could kill pads in 1,400 miles, unless it was on the track.

Well to be honest I am not sure. I bought the car a couple months ago and Ive only put around 1200 miles on it since then. So I am not sure what the deal is really. I am assuming since it was a BMW certified preowned that they put new pads on there but they might have ripped me off or the sensors could just be wacked. I dont think its all my braking. I have been driving pretty quick but this just doesnt make sense. Is there an easy way to check the amount of pad wear?

depending on what wheels you have you should be able to just look and see the pad. if not jack it up and take off the wheel. 15 mins to take it off and put back on, tops.
