R50/53 Tech Service bulletin on PS cooling fan???
Tech Service bulletin on PS cooling fan???
I have a 2002 MCS the car has 55,000 and im hearing that it is common to have a power steering pump failure due to the PS cooling fan fail.
When the PS cooling fan fails on these early S cars it might also blow a fuse which is the same fuse that the engine cooling fan is on thus enabling the entire car.
Is there a Tech Service Bulletin on this problem. My dealer says no but recommends that I change the fan as they are indeed a common problem.
Does anyone know a NUMBER of a TSB from MINI covering this issue?
Short of that, should the fan be changed as a preventative measure? Also should the wiring harness that now sparates the two circuits be installed.

The power steering fan shared the same electrical circuit as the radiator fan until January 2003.
This meant that if road debris jammed the power steering fan causing the common fuse to blow, the radiator fan would not operate and the engine would overheat.
Putting the power steering fan on a separate electrical circuit was covered under warranty per Service Bulletin M320104.
The power steering fan was unprotected by a grille until October 2003 .
For protection many owners added an aftermarket shroud like the stainless steel one shown below:

My power steering fan experienced such a failure and was replaced under warranty. The wiring was fixed to split the control circuit so that a failure of the power steering fan wouldn't disable the radiator cooling fan. Later my service engine light came on and I had to have the cylinder head repaired (machined for flatness, valve guides replaced, new gasket etc because of the previous overheating. Altogether I think it was in for about 10 or 12 days. It was covered even though I was out of warranty at that point.
