How much for the JCW aero kit installation at the port?
Those of you that had the JCW aero kit installed at the port, how much did you spend? A dealer just quoted me $2550 for the JCW aero kit installation at the port. How much did you guys spend? Also, the dealer said they do not send the original body kit of the car. Is that true?
I was charged $2595 to have it installed at the VDC and, no, I didn't get the old parts back. I was told that I could get it installed at the dealer for more (I think about $400 more) and get the parts back. Even though $400 is a good price for the old parts, I don't have room to store them so I had it done at the VDC.
I was supposed to get mine installed at the VDC, but the dealer goofed and had to have them shipped and installed at the dealer. I asked for and got the old parts. I just sold them for $400
. So it all netted out to $2,100.
Definition of Dealer Installed
When you guys say "dealer installed," do you mean that the kit is being installed on the premises of the dealership?
Do any dealerships have paint and body shops in house?
I have had experience with one MINI dealership here in L.A. and other makes farming out their body and paint work to a 3rd party shop.
In the aero kit installation pdf, 1.5 hours is the time suggested for the install. This doesn't include painting, but I can't imagine that painting parts that are primed is that laborious of a task.
Basically, the point I'm getting at is why spend circa $1,000 to have the dealership or VDC install this thing? It's a body kit without mechanical parts so I can't imagine having much of a warranty concern. I would guess that going direct to a body shop would save you a lot of money.

The kit is about $1600. By the time you pay to get it painted & installed, you are going to be at least $2000 (some have reported much more). Not to mention the fret & hassle of finding someone you trust to do the job, plus the potential for screw-ups. Personally, it's not worth saving a few hundred to go this route. Given the ridiculous prices I'm paying for all the other extras, this is just noise I'd rather not be bothered with.

I see your point, Pasta.
I have a body shop close to my house that does all of Santa Monica Audi's work, and the owner grew up a few houses down from me, so I trust him more than a MINI dealership or VDC. Plus, I don't have a MINI dealership within a half hour of me so it's more convenient for me to go to him and deal with him if he doesn't put something on correctly.
If he can't do it for cheaper, then I'll probably go the VDC route.

Aero kit
you can get the 2007 jcw aero kit at Morristown Mini for $1276 and I got another dealer to match the price and quote painting and installation for $900. I have quotes from other good body shops for $1000-1200. So anyone should be able to have the whole shebang for $2200. Anything else is pure profit for someone.
How much is shipping? Also, your time, full warranty, factory paint (someone said VDC gets these already painted), and taking delivery with it already done has got to be worth something. But this might be a good story to run by your MA - maybe he'll cough up a couple hundred just to ink the deal.
