How hard is it to remove the shift **** (auto) and e-brake handle?

Does anyone make a replacement ****/handle that will match the red Lounge Leather?

there is one in the mini catalog. Its around $95. Not sure on install difficulty. My dealer offered to install it for $20. but the wood **** I wanted was $200. Not sure its worth that much. I am more focused on possible JCW kit right now...

Edit: Sorry, didn't realize this was for an automatic. The following is just for the manual transmission.

It is hard to remove the ****, but not difficult. You just have to pull up very hard. You are causing a Nylon flange to pop out of a groove in the shaft. It takes some strength and confidence that you wont pull the car apart. I wasn't sure how to do it when I picked up my MCS so I asked my MA. He got into a braced position, put both hands on the ***** and pulled up like he was lifting a 300 lb. barbel. **** came off.

I make a variety of wooden *****. Some of the woods have a reddish hue that would go well with red lounge leather.

Auto? as in Auto tranny?

i would imagine that the auto has a button on it and hence will be different to get off.

e-brake removal

I replaced the e-brake on my '05 a week ago and switched it with a chrome one. I'm thinking that this should be the same for yours.
1. Use a screwdriver to pop the front cap near the button off. There are 2 tabs that you'll need to push in while pulling it out.
2. Insert the screwdriver in between the leather e-brake sock thing and the center counsel. There should be about 4-6 tabs (2 on each side and 1 in the back and 1 on the front)
3. Invert the leather e-brake sock and find the zip-tie that clamps down the e-brake sock to the handle. Cut the zip-tie to release it.
4. Slide the handle off the shaft. You'll need to push down on the side tabs to release it from the side notches.
5. Replace with your new e-brake handle by reversing the steps above.
Simple swap procedure. Shouldn't take more than 30min.
