Far from home and free wheelin'

The wife and I saddled up Percy and drove out of Texas last Thursday night. New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, California, and Arizona. Right now we are in an internet cafe in Reno sucking up coffee and surfin' the WW. Percy is napping in the casino garage.
Ok, this isn't the right page for travel stories, so on to the prper subject.

OMG! We left Mexican Hat Utah early the other day. Drove over the canyonlands and on to Nevada. We passed the first vehicle at 148 miles. Talk about seeing nobody! Omega man stuff!

OK, lets just not talk about speeding or whatnot, but we got 40 mpg from Hanksville Ut to Ely Nevada. A lot of that was not "drivin' to Sunday lunch" speed. Percy has really loosened up and hit his stride. Snappy, percise steering, quick throttle response, and the gearbox is perfect in the mountains.
We have yet to get below 37 mpg on a tank of gas. That's hand calc'd. The OBC has been about 2/10ths below on each run. Right now the combined miles traveled and ext range indicate above 600 miles for a tank.

Freakin' WOW!

Sounds like you are having a great trip. I envy you getting out on the open road with your Mini. Around here it's just traffic - and Minis don't like to be held back.

looks like you are doing what I *wanted* to do on my recent trip in the 4-corners area...
A Toyota Yaris does not make for fun on driver's roads.

Update:
On the road home, now. Reno to Tonopah and have 43.8 mpg indicated. At it sure looks like it. 126 miles before the first notch unlit.
Saw a few MINIs in the Reno/Tahoe area. All of them gave the wave. Cool.

Motoring on!
