Who has free time on Friday? Free admission to the dragstrip!
Hi everyone! I know its kind of last minute, but...
Friday, Great Lakes Dragaway is open from 12-5 for a private track rental for drag racers in the area. Racers pay ahead of time to race all day, but spectators are free (normally $12-20) until 5, then the gates close for a bit and re-open (start charging again) to the regular Friday open racers and spectators. So get there by 5 and stay all night for free. Unless you decide to beat on your poor MINI a little and drive it down the strip, then you'll have to pay to race. I'd love to see what my car would do, but I'm sooooo afraid I'll break something
I will be there all day with my BF. We'll be busy testing his car for a race on Sat, but these days are always fun to go to. Lots of fast and pretty cars, no crowds, and hopefully perfect weather. I think it would be great to have a bunch of MINIs there. Let me know if aynone is interested!

I don't mean to hijack your thread but...
Route 66 is a WAY better track. I grew up at Great Lakes so I am not just saying that. Dad was there two weekends ago for a race and the track part of the track is just in BAD shape. If he raced still he said that he would not race there anymore.
Again, don't mean to be a jerk or anything, just looking out for fellow MINI owners.

Well aware of that
I LOVE RT 66, but we're only 25 minutes from GLD, so we have to test there. I'm there at least twice a week, sometimes more. The track conditions all depend on who is racing. They actually prep the track properly if there's big tire cars, but if it's just open racing then it's not so great. I say a little prayer any time my BF goes down the track, but that's anywhere. As much fun as it is, anything can happen (88 Monte, 10.5" tire, mid 8's!)
Friday should be okay. At the last track rental, everyone complained that they were slipping so hopefully they paid to have it prepped more this time. MINIs and street cars aren't really affected by it, mostly just the big tire and really fast cars.
