K&N CAI heat shield yes or no ?

I recently installed a Typhoon cai on my mini, it did not come with any surround, doe's it need or require one for full efficiency or is that another restriction? thanks for your input.

As far as I know there is no air box that comes with the Typhoon intake (I have the same unit installed on my 05'. Just make sure it clears the hood lining (like I didn't do) otherwise it will melt it. Now my hood liner has a K&N branding on it

Ha, mine was rubbing at first, too. 05 MC 5 spd w/ K&N Typhoon. Just take a super sharp knife and some scissors and cut out a square of the hood lining. Problem solved. Also, it gets pretty fresh air from the intake above the radiator that had been hooked up to the stock air box. You may be able to direct that even more with some tubing and ingenuity (sic?).

Thanks for the advice , yeah I have the 'branding' on my liner too! I guess it's a common problem.
