New Mod for GNAT - Convertible Braces

While at MITM I had a new mod installed by my friends at Custom Mini Shop. Very quick and easy to install on all 1st Gen Mini's built after Mini started building convertibles. Funny I don't see much talk of this easy and inexpensive mod. Less then $55 in parts. The mod is adding the Convertible Braces that come standard on all Convertibles.

This ties the strut tower to the engine support beam. On all Mini's built after convertibles were introduced the holes are already in place and tapped. It's a simple matter of removing the plugs and using the bolts available from Mini to install.

Sorry I missed a closer look at your MINI while you were at MITM. Nice mod, I suspect your going for more track stiffness?

I saw you did the APANELS with vents, is this custom or are they available from another source. Engine bay cooling or a visual mod.?

I enjoy your picasa album updates when you post new pics.

I've been curious about this mod for some time. Have you noticed any increased rigity?

Not really. Already have Under Strut bars, upper bars and welded in triangulated roll bar. I figured this couldn't hurt, weight is like nothing, less then a pound, cost was low, and I needed a mod, I was modless for weeks.

They are made in Japan, I found them on German Ebay, have seen them on Hong Kong Ebay. More visual then cooling, not sure how much air can really escape from under the bonnet back there.

Rarely is such honest talk of this addiction heard in these hallowed halls.

Admitting you have a problem is the first step...

As for me, I don't have no stinkin problem. Mind your own biz...

cool, looks like a trip to the dealership is in order. I like the whole "cheap" part.

have you thought about doing the diagonal underbody rear braces from the Cabrio? I think it would be the same.

The rear braces will run about $300 for all the parts. For my car I don't think it's worth it considering I have a triangulated roll bar.

Here is a picture of them on RealOEM http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...93&hg=51&fg=80
