2007 MINI Cooper Classic (what I should know?)

Heya, I'm brand new to the mini scene Just waiting for my first car to come in within the next 2 weeks!!!

Anyways, I'm interested in upgrading the audio system, but I noticed the deck was kind of built into the speedometer, how difficult is this going to be? Additionally, I was looking at getting sattelite radio for it too, I hear they have the hookups available to just plug it in, so I suppose installation should be easy. Any comments or things I should know getting into this? Thanks!

EDIT: sorry for making a new post on things that have been discussed quite extensively, but I couldn't find anything 2007 specific, and with the overhaul of the interior, I figure it warranted it's own thread.

Don't know about the Sat Radio thing but it's not going to be easy to change the radio.

There's a thread about this that just started up this morning.

Most people are keeping the stock head unit and upgrading the speakers. Some are adding amps and subwoofers.

I get the impression that the HIFI upgrade is be favored, even for upgrades, as it is easier to upgrade.

Ya, I was thinking of just simply tossing in an amp and upgrading all the speakers. I noticed the sound was breaking up in the test model I drove at around 50% volume. If only I knew what was breaking, the speakers or the head :-/

I don't think i'm gonna be hauling very much, so I'd even be interested in the prospect of turning the trunk into a sub-woofer basin :p

I have an R56 a local audio shop put a sub in rear hatch where the jack goes It's a little offset and an amp under the passenger seat and 2 tweeters on front window posts sounds great! Left all other speakers alone my friend also did It to his mini good luck!

Forgetaboutit... there is no quick hook-up available that just plugs in. Oh ya Dice has one for around three hundred bucks. It seems that the mini gods decided to change the plan for 07 and the R56 is not a plug and play toy. IF your going satellite and not having the dealer install it for around 900 bucks your best bet is to go through the aux. jack for the radio. The unit sits nice and neat in the opening in front of the shifter. An aftermarket dealer or someone with a bit of electrical knowledge should be able to hot wire it so the unit works with the key. Good luck with your new toy. Yourgonnaloveit
