Taking apart toggle switches?

the thing under the a/c with the door lock/windows/etc toggle switches, has anyone taken that apart, to access the inside? im putting a switch for an amp in that one spot on mine that had no toggle, and i just noticed theres an LED there, even tho there was no switch there, so i want to get that amber LED out, and use it for the **** for my amp control.

also, im having the hardest time getting the damn wiring harness unplugged from the back of the toggle switches!

lol thanks for anyones help in advance.

I have taken it apart and found out that the toggle switches are kinda fake. Its not a actual switch but a lever if you will, that pushes down on a contact point on a circut board. There is not much room in there so doing any custom work might be kinda hard or impossible unless you mess with the circut board in a way. Just my 2 cents though.

Might want to contact Ian Cull, he might be able to help you with a custom circuit to turn on the amp. I know he is working with another NAMer to make her blank toggle become a switch for aftermarket driving lights.

Ian has documented taking the panel apart: http://www.gbmini.net/G2/v/2005album...leSwitchPanel/
and unplugging the connector: http://www.gbmini.net/G2/v/General/M...uit/?g2_page=2

You can either put in a different circuit to make it all work (Ian Cull does them, there's another place that does them too but I'm not familiar), or you can wire a different mechanical switch to the switch location (it won't match, but it depends on if that matters to you or not). If you put electrical tape over the contact points where the blank toggle is, you can drill out the spot, put a different mechnical toggle in, and run the wiring around the circuit board inside.

The cheaper way is to just put in a different mechanical-type toggle and wire it. The easier (but more expensive) way is to get a circuit to override the function of the switch itself, and then buy a full toggle panel.

As far as the LED itself, the circuit board operates it. It's pretty tricky (from what I understand) to make it work aside from that.
