Yanking the padded dash?

I'm hearing that you need to remove the entire windscreen glass to remove the padded dash rail in the '92? I know that the dash is held on with 4 bolts, but are they all accessible from underneath? I'm going to be fitting some MODs under and around the padded rail this weekend and the installation will be a LOT easier if I can do the work out of the car...

Thanks!

The peice at the top right with the vents inset... Earlier models simply had a painted metal piece and later models had this leatherett-covered padded unit:

Yours has the painted older dash, MINIxB.

No you will not need to take out the windscreen. There are four screws with nuts holding it in. You will need to remove the vents first. But do not remove the windscreen.

Matt,

I forget what your plans are for the dash. Are you keeping the rectangular binnacle? Or... going for the wood dash? Also, what brand is your steering wheel. It's very nice.

My wheel is the 3-spoke Mountney 13", available at GBCarparts.com:

I'm keeping the binnicle (for now) - maybe if I can find a proper oval 3-gauge unit at a swap meet or something I'll replace it, but for now it's too expensive for me to buy a new one.

As for the MOD... you'll just have to see. You know me, though - it will definitely involve something that lights up. I will say that Im shooting for a much more subtle effect than my 2006, and am trying to increase utility and visibility as opposed to adding "bling". Only time will tell if I'm successful in that endeavor. I will, of course, be keeping notes for a How-to.
