Extended maintenance contract?!?!?!

New MC driver here,

I just bought a 2004 MC, CVT with 5,500 miles on it. I had inquired about the service required and was told the 'service' warranty ran out but could purchase the extended contract for $1595, which would carry me to February of 2010 or 50,000 miles, which ever comes first. I think we will probably drive about 10K a year, so would this 'service warranty' be worth the $1595.

Also, after reading some of the posts, I'm very confused about the costs and milage options of this contract.... Some are saying it's about $400-$500, while others are saying it's closer to what I was quoted ($1595). And is there a 100,000 mile service contract....I was never offered that??

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated!

It depends on the dealership - they all sell it for varying costs.

I've never heard of a 100,000 mile maintenance contract. But there are 100,000 mile extended warranties out there (completely different), and with you having a CVT (I have one too) I would recommend you look into them at some point.

Geico insurance can add extended warranty for just a few bucks per month and will cover up to 100k. If you dont have them your insurance may offer something simliar. That's my 2 cents.

I thought the maintenance warranty only covered "routine maintenance services" such as oil changes & brakes/rotors.

If the MC you bought doesn't have OEM brakes/rotors, the brake/rotor part of the maintenance service warranty would be voided.

As far as the oil changes go, the service warranty will only cover 1 oil change per 10K miles...so that's a max of 5 oil changes.

I'm certain others with additional info will chime in soon.

I saw on TV the other night about the same subject. It was a positive report on extended used car warranty. It was talking about protecting yourself and the new to you vehicle against issues.
I recommend you Google " Car Warranty" just I had a few minutes ago. There are several sites that do just this sort of thing.
CarWarranty.com and WarantyDirect.com were mentioned on the program and are listed on Google.
Check them out and let us know your findings, please. I might be in the market for a new to me car!
