Driving Cross Country

We're going to drive cross country in our new mini starting on 1 August and will take a northern route from upper Michigan to Seattle, down the coast to San Diego and back to the Washington DC area. Any good suggestions either about the mini maintenance, packing, or great motoring routes would be appreciated.

If you have the time.

From Seattle, jump over to Hwy-101, south all the way to Legett, CA, then onto CA Hwy-1 all the way to Los Angeles. Muddle through and get on I-5 south to San Diego.

Steppenwolf music is a must for any road trip.

+1 THE BEST scenery ever...and some very nice twisties to boot.

Are you going to stop at MITM II in Copper Mountain, Colorado on your trek? Sounds as though the timing might be just about right.

That would be a huge detour though, going from DC to Seattle.

Not really. Get your kicks on Route 66 (I-44 most of the way) on the return trip. You have to do that at least once during your lifetime anyway.

If you can, stop at Glacier NP in northern MT. You will not be disappointed and might regret you passed it by when you could have stopped to see one of the major wonders of the continent
