Flat tire!!

My flat tire indicator went off as I was heading off the Dempster exit on the Edens on my commute home today.

The car felt a little vague around the curve, so I took it easy for the next mile home. I had a flat left front (15 inch tires, no run-flats). The good news was that it was only flat on the bottom

I had a fun time getting the wheel off as there was no clearance to get my floor jack under the now-lowered car.

The next challenge was getting the wheel off the hub. It was rusted on and didn't want to come loose. Huge thanks to Waylen for a bit of telephone support and the large rock for the final bit of persuasion.

A quick trip to Just Tires took care of the leaking valve stem and life is good. I will put the tire back on tomorrow so I can take some time to clean the inside of the wheel, inspect the brakes, etc. in daylight, and give me the excuse to motorcycle commute.

wow, sounds like a pita! good thing you made it home okay.

i had a leaking valve stem too a couple of months ago. the core was
just loose on mine. so just tightened it down and it was good to go.

my civic's rear tire was also leaking a little bit from the rear right a month
or so ago. perhaps the super cold winter we had had something to do with
the bead breaking, etc.

Sounds like of all the times for it to happen this was pretty good, you can take the motorcycle tomorrow and you weren't stuck on the highway with a flat. Of course flats are never fun.

STOP THE FLAT MADNESS!

After a great day of fun with cones, I went out tonight to get an ice cream cone . Pulling out of my sub, the low tire light comes on, stop on the way to the DQ and sure enough the FL is low, NAIL! Off to the DQ for a treat. Now it's 9pm Sat night, I see that the auto zone is open, run in get a plug kit, back to the station, pull the nail, plug it, air it, and drove home. Look like a summer in HS of working in a tire shop paid off tonight.
