Hi, I just took delivery of a mc /automatic on monday night. It arrived on a transport from Las Vegas about 10pm and I was so excited. I bought it for my daughter for her first new car.I looked everywhere for silk green and this seemed to be the only one left anywhere. I was going to try and surprise her this weekend after exams but I just couldn't wait. I thought when the guy unloaded it, it sounded a bit loud but never having driven one before I was sure how it should sound. So yesterday after school I let my daughter drive around the neighborhood and she thought everything was fine. This morning a took it out for a short drive,it has less then on 20 miles on the car. When I took out the owner manual to see about the different gauges are I was stunned to see that on my speedometer the EP (engine problem) light was engaged.I live 100 miles from the closest dealer, so Help I'm not sure where to turn, and what might be the problem. Any ideas ?? Thanks for any help you might offer. This was suppose to be a fun present!! Lauren

Sorry to hear that. This is a problem that you will most likely need a dealer to look at and fix. I dont think its anything too major though.

Your CVT transmission program has gone into fail safe mode. You need to take the car back to the dealer ASAP. Also could you tell us the actual build date of the car (Month and year can be located on the factory placard installed in the driver's side door jamb).

I would sugggest for you to contact Jenn at MINIUSA (1-866-ASK-MINI) her extension is 8474.

>>The build date is 2/03. I called Scottsdale mini and the service advisor said it is the computer. Then he told me to have my daughter keep driving it, they wouldn't have a fix for two weeks. She is a beginning driver, I don't think I can take the risk of putting her in it.I wonder if I have bought myself a british lemon. Everyone had such nice things to say I figured I couln't go wrong. Will mini send a flatbed to pick it up?? I don't want to drive 100 miles in the Arizona heat and have something go wrong on the highway

I once drove a car with the service engine soon light on
cross country and back. But I would want them to flatbed it
since you only have 100 miles. Call MiniUSA and let us know
how you make out. If the car is running OK it is probably not
a big problem.

I only have 25 miles on the car. I haven't even taken it out of my neighborhood.

It could just be a loose O2 sensor or something.
But they should definitely flatbed it.
Call MiniUSA and insist!!!

My Mini for the longest time was going in and out of limp mode. After being able to clear it by stopping, resting and restarting, this no longer worked after a while.

So, the night before I was going to Limp Mode my Mini over 90 miles on S. Cal Highways to my dealer, I gave it a full once over.

I soon found out that I had a blown fuse in the fuse box next to my ECU. Swapped the bad fuse out with a good one and never had the problem again.

It was a 15 amp fuse, number 3 or 4 from the front of the box.

But, by all means if this does not fix it then take it to the dealer. By all means if you do not know the reason why you blew the fuse take it to the dealer.

Still worth a look.

Thanks for all the help. I just unsure if I should put my new driver daughter in this car until the problem is fixed. She really wants to drive it and show it to her friends.I'll check the fuses but thought I might go up to the local bmw dealer tonight and see if he has any on his lot that I might start so I can hear what the mini should sound like.I thought it sounded weird from the very first start.

diamini, just checked the fuse box and top to bottom on the left side there were 2 "50" fuses, a blank space, then a "30" fuse, then 2 more "50" fuses, then a forty fuse. Am I missing a fuse?? if so,would that be causing the EP light to be showing on the speedometer?? Thanks

Thanks for the pictures, Mine looks just the same. I was hoping that maybe they forgot a fuse where the space was.Is it easy to tell if a fuse needs replacing?? Sorry this is all new to me. do you by any chance remember which one you replace to solve your problem??

Just pull out each one that is circled and see if it is blown.

Should look similar to this. But, the one Pictured is a 20 amp. I could not find any blown 15 amp fuses laying around.

Good Luck
