Mini R53: "Mk I" Mini Cooper S 2002 - 2006
Description:

I used parts off this to upgrade/fix mine and am offering this for FREE for local pickup. It's a facelift R53 6-speed transmission. It has some issues that you'd need to fix to use it, but the gears and bearings as far as I know are in good shape. 163k miles on it. Used to have the OEM LSD, but I removed it to use in my transmission, so it now has a normal diff.

Issues:

  • A plastic piece was broken internally and I removed it. I didn't realize it is reverse threaded, so I broke the small bolt holding it in when removing it. Not sure what the plastic piece's purpose is. I was apparently driving with it broken for a long time (70k miles), so it doesn't seem to affect drivability.
  • One of the mount bolts was seized and broke when loosening. I've been soaking with Kroil, so you might be able to get it out now with the broken part of the bolt that's sticking out.
  • The front part of the bracket for the slave cylinder is cracked/broken. There is a bracket you can buy from a UK vendor that would fix this easily.
  • Part of the bell housing is cracked. This part doesn't hold fluid, so there are no leaks and it doesn't affect anything. I drove it for 70k miles with no issues.
  • You'll need a back-up light sensor (I used the old one to fix mine that was leaking internally)
  • You'll need one of the clutch cable bracket bolts (these bolts were unbelievably tight and I destroyed one on removal)
I've already resealed the case with anaerobic gasket maker, so you wouldn't need to reopen the case if using as is.

Pickup in Unionville, CT. PM with any questions.
