Buying a JCW and needing HELP

Hi Everyone, I'm new to the forum and about to get my first Mini and would like to know if it's worth buying or not. I have the details of the car below and please let me know if the car is worth the price and if there's anything i should be looking out for or check before buying it, thank you everyone for your help.

2011 JCW - Asking $10500 but negotiates down to $9,000 before looking at the car.
Conditions looks good from ADs
34000 miles
6 sp

The car is a Flooded car and according to car fax it was fixed or own by a Dealer who took title of this vehicle while it was in inventory and a SALVAGE TITLE/CERTIFICATE was ISSUED.

Now would anyone be able to tell me is this is a good or decent deal and How im i supposed to know if the engine is genuine a JCW engine. Thanks

Serious? $9,000 for a flooded car with a salvage title is, in my opinion, insane.

How much do you think the car is worth? Again just so you won't be missing anything, this car is fixed, pass inspections and been driving for the last 10k miles. Thanks

Should move this to the Gen2 side. This is the Prince N18 engine that most in the Gen1 side has stayed away from.

As far as the worth of the car, have you gone to KBB and seen what the car is worth? If it was floating like a log, i would not touch it with a ten foot pole.

doduong11 12-07-2016 07:20 PM

Ok thank you, I'll try the Gen2 section. But as far as KBB goes, no one is really selling their car for those price and everyone knows it.

900exdriver 12-07-2016 07:32 PM

Yeah send this over of to gen2 but you're going to get the same answer. I don't care if it was floating or if water just got in over the rocker panels. It's claimed as a flood vehicle and you should be looking else where. That's crack price terrority.

Whine not Walnuts 12-08-2016 05:13 AM

Found this:

Consumer Reports calculates that a salvage-title car is worth 50 percent of its Kelley Blue Book value, at bes

MrBlah 12-08-2016 05:40 AM

yeah 5000 sounds about right, with all the electronic crap in these cars that will act up later due to corrosion you need a big discount

Whine not Walnuts 12-08-2016 05:55 AM

Not knowing what options, KBB has the car at around $17,000 so based on the consumer report of 50%, $8,500 BUT unlike a car that was totaled in an accident, this is floater whereby the electrical components will slowing rust away.

If this was a 1960 something with a battery, coil and a bunch of mechanical control cables maybe but with all the electrical gizmos, I am back to not touching with a 10 foot pole

doduong11 12-08-2016 02:51 PM

thank you, will keep this in mind when i go look at it. So what about an original 2003 JCW, clean title with 36000 miles is worth, what would you say because i'm also going to be looking at this one this Saturday. The buyer is asking $8750, thank you.

Whine not Walnuts 12-08-2016 03:27 PM

I check prices on Kelly Blue Book. You get a good idea on what cars are going for. Unless you are looking for a "museum" piece, we are talking a car that is not going to appreciate in value, is pushing 14 years old and does not have the updates that the later model cars (2005/06) have.

I have a 08 clubman S that i bought from auction. It was a flooded car. Two yours later, the car is solid. Most of the electronics were replaced and programmed. If i had it, i would sell it for a little less since its value at the auction would've been low. The other thing is, was the mileage known at the time? Meaning is that the ACTUAL mileage?
At the end of the day, it is you who will pay and drive it and enjoy it. Although 9k is a bit too much.

I don't know why people are so afraid of R Title car, I own an R title car myself which i got for a pretty good price. 2001 Honda S2000, with 60k miles and fresh water flood car. Ran perfect til this day, original engine and all, plus OEM hardtop, suspension and BBs wheels. I paid $8500 for it and still think it was the best purchase i made in all of my cars.
The reason i ask about this is i don't know the values of these mini, i know KBB tells the price but people aren't really selling them according to KBB. So that's why i'm just trying to price it accordingly before making another offer. The mileages according to CarFax seems correct when it was exchange between owners. If i can get him down to about $7-$7500 i think it would be a good deal regardless.

One questions tho if anyone would help me out. The car on CarFAx is listed as a cooper S, but it does have the JCW wheels and all. So how do i tell if it is infact a legit JWC upgrades.

MiniToBe 12-08-2016 05:28 PM

http://bimmer.work try this :-)

Whine not Walnuts 12-08-2016 06:41 PM

Yes, decode the VIN.

And by the way, had two S2000. Great cars, if I was not an old fart that could get in and out of them, would still have. That AP1 9000 RPM redline is so sweet.

Big thing is the JCW brakes and the non JCW tuning kit badge location.

The Badge on the upper grille is that of a JCW tuning kit engine upgrade. Grille on factory is the lower left hand side. The engine on the pre 2013 will have no JCW badge, post will on the cover.

factory JCWs: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...talk-2009-303/

What someone did it get the JCW appearance package or just checked off every JCW part at the dealer expect the brakes. The VIN does tell the story 100% and a call to the dealership or getting the original sticker tells the rest of the story and what the dealer added on before delivery.

Noonzio 12-09-2016 09:46 AM

The VIN report will list the model as R56 (JCW) if it is a factory JCW

Agreed - placing of the badge is a tell-tale sign that it isn't a factory JCW

Thank you all, I went with the 2003 JCW instead. I paid $8200 for the car, two owners, the second owner bought a 2013 GP so that's why it's for sale. The car has just about 36k miles on it. Drives perfect and no accident history. Thank you everyone for the input and guidance. I'll be posting up pics of it later this week when i have a chance to snap some. Thanks again eveyone!

Noonzio 12-12-2016 07:18 AM

Congrats - looking forward to pics!

Thanks, will get it up asap.

Also does anyone know how to find out which JCW package is install on the car? I saw the JCW certificate for the car but didn't say anything about which package was installed. Thanks

It's either 200bhp or 210bhp. 380cc injectors and a JCW air box means it's 210bhp.

doduong11 12-12-2016 06:28 PM

What about suspension and LSD, how would i know if any of these are part of the package? or are they not a part of JCW package, thanks
