Rear Seat Removed!
 

Rear seat removed. I know this has been done before, but here's what I had in mind :thumbsup:

I made it out of 0.125 plastic Styrene over a light wieght aluminum H frame of sorts. It's bolted to the rear seat bolt holes that face rear through a main aluminum L channel, this is the main support. It then allowed to rest on the forward snap mounts, with another L channel. These then have L channel connecting them front to rear. See below, Maker in Blue.

Two hatches allow my to stow my cleaning supplies. Hatches are also made of 0.125 plastic Styrene. 0.250 foam was glue to the underside to cut down on road noise, have to get more. The whole thing then finished off with a black vynil covering. Two notches are cut in for my 4 point belts.

The whole thing weighs around 5 pounds, and strong enough to lean on if needed.

Very nice design! I would TOTALLY be into a kit if you made it available! Although I wouldn't need the notches for the Shroth.........I would use a harness bar that is mounted to both B-pillars.........

5 pounds is great! What are the rear seats 30 lbs all together? or 30 pounds a seat............now all I have to do is get rid of those stupid heated seats that weigh about 45 lbs APIECE! AAAAAAAHH!

I would be interested in kitting these out, but just don't have the time. :confused: I feel some refinments would also be in order. If there is a interest, I can put some plans together?? Shouldn't cost more then $50.00 to make yourself.

I think someone was talking about making a kit recently on NAM.

I know there are many plastics companies that will give you their scraps for free, many of which are big enough to do a project like this. I go to a local plastics company for free scraps for sculptures and have often grabbed pieces for car projects. That would save you a lot of money. :thumbsup:

jcmini, that is VERY nice. It beats the heck out of mine for sure! I put stuff on the top of my deck a fair amount of time. Is yours load-bearing to any degree? If so, I too would be quite interested. Thanks much, and kudos to you!

I really like that! I also had a thought:

What if you created another piece to cover the hatch area, so that you have one continuous flat floor from the edge of what used to be the rear seat to the rear wall of the hatch area?

It would need to be removable for access to the battery, and you could put in access hatches like you did in your design.

Just a thought...

JC, if you put plans up, I'd be willing to pay for 'em. That's one of the best, if not the best looking projects I've seen as far as covering up the seat removal. It looks like there was never a seat there to begin with. Great job! :thumbsup:
