Anyone installed OEM Black handles and gas cap?
I know you can get glue on covers for these but I like the idea of having the OEM handles and gas cap. Has anyone installed the new black handles and gas cap. Dealer do it or did you do it? Any issues?

Save the hassle and just use the covers. They are press on, not glue on
You cant tell the difference |

door handle replacement on the f56 takes MAYBE 15 minutes total. The fuel cap just twists off and takes about 10 seconds to replace. |
I thought the oem black gas cap was just a cover over the original?
|
the covers for the gas cap are aftermarket. I would rather have a flat door than the cap.

The gas cap inner ring pops off and you can then remove the cap. Details are on this site under reference-complete repair manual with photos and procedures. I just replaced the door handles last week-wife had a problem with button on passenger side with the covers. The door handle covers also have an "edge" where you need to grip. Yea, the took less than 15 minutes to change. I would cover the gas cap-have one on for 4 years and no problems. If you do not want shiny, Krylon or Rust-o-leum satin black for plastic works great.

Did the handles w/ comfort entry and yeah, they take maybe 10 minutes a door and that's kinda pushing it. Once you get the knack of pulling the locking mechanism with a string and slipping the handle back in it's a breeze. I wish all mods were that easy. The gas cap is similarly easy - not even 2 minutes. Just push a tab on the inside of the cap and twist the outer cap. It pops right off. The Mini Vlog on YouTube did a short video on it when he removed his to wrap it. These two mods are so easy to do I wouldn't bother with the stick on ones. Might as well do the OEM ones since it'll take you just as long to put them on. They'll also fit 100% while the covers have some QC issues where sometimes they don't cover the OEM part all the way so chrome is still visible.

Do you have the part number or a link to where I can get the OEM handles and gas cap?

BMW discount parts is a good source for the west of US. They go to the BMW port of entry location everyday, ship that or the next day, and they are way under list price. Door handles:
51712457410, 51712457413. If you do not have comfort access or lighting, just do not connect wiring. You can call them on the cap #. |
I installed the OEM door handles, gas cap, grill, light surrounds, and new black emblems on my 2016.

I got mine from ECS Tuning - they're around $50 a piece for the hood and hatch. They're the OEM badges that you see on the Knights edition JCW. As for the badging that says COOPER S on the back you can find aftermarket ones that are blacked out.

Yep, Handles / Cap are here: https://www.ecstuning.com/Search/SiteSearch/517124574/
For cars with or without on the comfort access, if you dont have it, you just dont have a plug to use the little rubber buttons https://c1552172.ssl.cf0.rackcdn.com/1099685_x800.webp Blackline F56 Badges/emblems here: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...-stick-on.html https://c1552172.ssl.cf0.rackcdn.com/1322312_x800.webp |
Oh yes! Ordered the blackline badges from ECS and just changed the gas cap and door handles last night, my 1st mod!
Couldn't believe I didn't have any string in my garage but fishing line and twine, ending up using the thick twine. First handle was a pain but once I figured it out, second side was much easier. And to think I was going to pay the dealer to do it, geesh. |
Thanks for the orders.

It was about $450 for me to do the same. Badges are now half the price they were when I bought them though so take $50 off.

@kfmuller - how much did the OEM parts/installation run you? Looks awesome and am looking to do it myself. Thanks!
the gas cap pops off in seconds https://www.waymotorworks.com/black-...p-f55-f56.html Badges are easy diy https://www.waymotorworks.com/f56-bl...ge-emblem.html the door handles are a bit harder as you need to have someone that's done it before as they can do it in 15min, but not having done it will take some time https://www.waymotorworks.com/mini-b...ndles-f56.html |

None of your links ever work. At work, at home, on my phone etc. Even just your home page. You might want to look into it. I'm in Canada.
