Help! I'm in the middle of an emergency sunroof cassette and headliner removal effort.
What is the proper way to remove the base of the interior rearview mirror? The Haynes manual and BMW PDFs seem to stress NOT to rotate the base on removal but just push it steadily forward. However, for the reinstallation both sources seem to indicate to start the install with the base at a 45-degree angle.
What gives? The base doesn't seem to want to go straight forward. I really don't want to break anything else in this effort.

You have to line it up and you will have to press up hard, then twist. You will feel it grip and tighten, takes a couple times.
