how does the needle work?
I saw on the uk site where they had white needles.. is did they change the needles??
or is it a light that shines through it??

There is already a how to on here I believe. I think Fox_Trot did one.

xnotfunkylex Dec 13, 2008 06:42 PM

Is your Tach needle blue? If so, how did you do it?

joes14 Dec 13, 2008 06:53 PM

Yeah, fox_trot already did it on here a while ago. The tach needle is blue. It just required some sand paper and a few more LED's.

Let me know how many people are interested. I will do it cheap if a bunch of people want it done...any color!

The more people the better, that way the LED's are cheaper too!!!

drsilvermini Dec 13, 2008 06:54 PM

does anyone have the link to the how to? thanks!

It depends on where you are located. I am interested in blue. Nice job

xnotfunkylex Dec 13, 2008 07:44 PM

No step by step instructions, but here is the thread with the most information: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ckdrops-2.html (see especially post ). The basic idea is to replace the existing LEDs, but the problem is that they are SMT (surface mount) components that require specialized soldering tools and skills.

joes14, what tools are needed for someone to accomplish this as a DIY project?

joes14 Dec 13, 2008 10:12 PM

Very small tip Adjustable soldering tool. Low temp solder. Tweezer tool. Solder removal tool. Static free workspace is def needed or you can burn out the LED by touching it. Very steady hands too. You have to remember these LED's are only about an 1/8" wide. So I would say that prior precise soldering experience is a must! If you leave it on too long or try to do it without an adjustable solder tool, you can melt the LED or worse, mess up the board!!

tommy_zito Dec 14, 2008 05:18 AM

if you can do the crono package. put me on the list for blue as well...depending on price..... let me know please!

joes14 Dec 14, 2008 11:19 AM

Ok, for now I am doing 165.00 and that includes doing the needles whatever color you want, and shipping back to you.

Let me know what you guys think.

Malcon Dec 14, 2008 02:11 PM

done. Be carefull though. I would do most of this via private message, ...they get pretty tight about the vendor status situation. They dont like you making money off the forum...

joes14 Dec 14, 2008 04:38 PM

Thats cool. I will become a vendor if enough people want them! Im sure they aren't going to kick me for doing one or two though!

I hope not at least...lol.

PM me any interests or questions!

MUShadd Dec 14, 2008 07:12 PM

what about the HVAC panel, any luck in changing that?

joes14 Dec 14, 2008 07:27 PM

That is my next project...Im sure it will be easy enough. Should be done by tues or wednesday!

-=gRaY rAvEn=- Dec 15, 2008 04:27 PM

Nice .............

I love it. Would be cool to have a switch and go back and forth between colors depending on your mood.....

The color reminds me of the dash layout of my girlfriends 2002 Passat....that dash at night was like an arcade machine.

IrishCooper Dec 15, 2008 09:55 PM

Thats why i want this conversion done, i have a Jetta now and i love the blue gauges, the interior is blue and red at night, so i will miss that when i get rid of it. But if i can do blue and red-orange that would be the closest thing

desertmini21 Dec 16, 2008 03:40 AM

What about the light that illuminates under the door when you open it? I guess that's an easy fix?

Malcon Dec 16, 2008 03:46 AM

yeah thats a bulb you can buy
