NAM Hall of Fame

Back in January of 2002, Mark Ferguson started what is known today as North American Motoring.com. Many of us here call it "NAM" for short. NAM is pretty close to perfection for those of us that recognize the MINI is so much more than a "cute" car. If you have been visiting NAM over the past several weeks it should be evident that are a few updates being discussed. After 16 years NAM has over 302,500 threads that contain more than 4,255,000 posts. In 2002 it would be two years before anybody even heard about Facebook and five years before you could use an I-phone. Gas was about $1.61 a gallon. It is hoped that the updates help to make this place just a little bit better.

Of recent I have noted that in the "on-line forum community" the number of those taking the time to get involved by making a post are around 1%. Tonight, I was going through a thread that six months ago I put a post in. That thread is now 10 pages long and it occurred to me while reading through those 10 pages that the member responsible for it was so much more than just one of those 1% of people. So by the powers vested in me as a Moderator, I have created this thread to not only honor Mark Ferguson but also those that go the extra mile in making this place so good for many of us that cannot wait to get our MINI/Mini out of the road.

The first Inductee into the NAM Hall of Fame is of course Mark Ferguson. We recognize that there are numerous others that deserve this honor and ask that any 1%er that feels any current member deserves this great honor that they please post that member's username in this thread along with an example of their service to this enlightened community.

I would like to start off the nomination by pointing out the efforts of pnwR53S in the below thread. Please review and advise if you agree.

I have followed that thread with interest, as well as many others pnwR53S has posted in. I have not been here that long, but he certainly is a prolific poster with much helpful and useful information.

So take this as a YES vote! :)

Jerry

1. pnwR53S lives in Portland so obviously smart/weird.

2. anyone who can post a toilet and hammer in a car forum post must be deserving of an award.

I drive an F56, so you would think that thread would not interest me at all, but I have read every post and continue to follow it.

Count me as a "yes". :)

PNWR53S for Hall of Fame! :)

#biased I know him #IRL (in real life)

Aye

Whine not Walnuts 01-13-2018 05:59 AM

Not that I am biased, but I generally do not venture too much into the Gen2/3 areas as most of us Gen1 folks know our cars are better.

But there has to be those that go above and beyond with their Gen2/3s (this includes Countryman). I can think of a great looking lowered Countryman. Going to do some searching on that one.

While I am fairly new to NAM, I recognize it is the best MINI forum out there, with members that care that the product lives on. There is nowhere else you can get this degree of help and surely pnwr53S, is a top helper!
Thanks for your time helping others!
And thanks to North American Motoring.com and Mark Furguson, for what has become here!

If memory serves me right, I believe when this site first started it was know as “MINI Cooper Online” and MINI nixed use of the name and the switch to NAM was made. I’ve been a regular visitor since May of 2002 have enjoyed the resources provided as well as the exchange of information during the ownership experience through 5 MINIs (2 R50s, 2 R60s and an R58) Thank you NAM !

Curious, which active member has the most posts? That deserves some recognition.. Also, who's the oldest (membership not age) active member?

I have seen some old articles on BMW sending basic "cease and desist" letters out about using the MINI name without their consent.

When I was a kid I remember Endicott-Johnson Shoes.

I will do some checking on that.

It appears that there are two vendors approaching 15 years (2003 join dates) with NAM, Detroit Tuned and OutMotoring.

And with a join date of 2002, the shoe man Jimbo has been around a while.

You remember correctly, Endicott Johnson did start in Endicott, NY and George Johnson and family built a shoe empire from the Village of Endicott hiring thousands of immigrants and pioneered providing health care for employees and the fourty hour work week.
Later in the 20th century Thomas Watson started IBM in Endicott also hiring thousands of people and bringing people from around the world to Endicott to train and expand the early data processing and computer industry.

I also would like to nominate both Detroit Tuned and OutMotoring, both of which have been helping NAM members for 15 years.

I have been looking into member statistics and there is no easy way for me to determine the above answers. I will ask the IB Tech folks whether they can help with this matter.

So, let me see if I am understanding everything properly: Although I own a F56, I should look to this general forum for the most activity? Cool. I'd also like to add that my love of cars knows no bounds so I aim to be a strong contributor to this community.

There are possibly more R53/R56 enthusiasts and content on this website, but its a great community. Congrats on your Mini!

Glad you're joining us. I keep up with the most current posts by clicking on "new posts" several times a day. You'll find a lot of good info on the F cars in the 3rd Gen section. You'll find 4000+ threads in that section.
