Let's talk about wheels. What's good?
 

So I know this isn't the wheels and tires section...however I figured people here would have the best knowledge considering only a few wheels fit over the massive brakes.

I just picked up my car yesterday. I wanted black rims but they gave me the silvers.

So 1 question...

I'm looking to take the set right off...what does a brand new set of JCW challenge rims with brand new tires go for in the aftermarket??

Now that said...what are a hot set of STRONG wheels that are light, look hot, some type of black, and fit over the JCW brakes? Also I plan on going coilovers and lowering the whip a bit.

What's the good word my friends??

I know a bunch of us here have had success with Motegi SP10s. The 10-spoke design looks good on the Mini IMO.

I know there's a thread on here already about wheels that fit over our JCW brakes.

But I really like my current winter setup, almost wish they were my summer wheels- Enkei Performace Imola.

I like the enkei pf01. They are available in black in et38. Strong and lightweight at 15.6 lbs or so in 17x7 size.

If you ordered black and got silver, you should say something. I like my silver for summer and black for winter but maybe a thinner spoke would show the breaks better.

Anyone know how heavy they are? Insanely heavy or just a bit?

I'm considering keeping the current ones and going gun metal or black chrome.

Why don't you have the challenge rims powdercoated? they look like a BBS rim, I wonder if that is who makes them. If so, it's a quality wheel.

My car came with the goofy looking (in pictures) black/machined rims, but in person I love them! Can't post pic now, as I'm on my winter blah rims right now. Can't wait to get the black ones back on though.

That's what I'm leaning towards. At first I wanted the lighter weight of the aftermarket, however NOTHING I see looks as nice as the challenge rims. These look like rims off a Ferrari (challenge stradale) and all the aftermarket rims look like ones I'd see on a Civic or GTI. No offense to anyone. I'd be more than happy to be proven wrong. :)

Thinking of powder coating them slightly darker...a light gun metal.

I really like the Breytons, but I thought they required a spacer to fit over the JCW brakes?

I have Rota RBs, which do require spacers up front, but look great IMO and come in black as well:

Yes, the Breyton's require a 5mm spacer (roughly $50 for 4) to clear the BBK's.

I want to get the same wheels.:thumbsup: Whats your set up(rim and tire specs) and why do you need spacers? Would everyone need spacers or just for certain years? oops sorry its the JCW with the big brakes thats why.

Yea, that's the reason spacers are necessary with the RBs on the JCW. Without them they won't clear the big calipers in the front. Otherwise spacers aren't required for the RBs to fit on the Cooper.

I love the look of the RBs. Seems like they were made specifically for the MINI!

I'm running the Nitto NT05 at 235/40-17. Very nice tires. They're fairly new on the market but I'd readily recommend them to anyone looking for an extreme performance summer tire.

They're quiet and the sidewalls are solid as a rock. Grip is amazing and they communicate well back to the driver when they're about to break loose.

I won't have any track feedback on the tires until the end of April, but from what I've read about them they really shine on the track.

I run enkei pf01 17x7 38 mm offset and I would recommend them. They weigh 15.5 lbs or so and they do not require a spacer to fit over my tce plus 3 BBK which has 13" rotors and pretty large forged Wilwood FSL calipers. Still some space to spare. Should fit the 12.4" rotors of the factory JCW brakes without spacers.

PS: I do need a 5mm spacer for the crown spokes to fit.

While I like the look of the JCW wheels, I got so frustrated keeping the silver spokes clean from the brake dust! I went with a set of flat black Focal F05's, and I LOVE them!

Those are my track rims with my r-comps so I have them in the basement at this time. Would not be puttng them on the car till late April. Sorry no pics right now.
