Water in the Boot!

I have a 2017 Mini Cooper S Hardtop and I live in Florida where it rains everyday. From day one the water has been in the boot area. This is the second time that the car has been at the dealership for this problem...of course the first time they couldn't duplicate the issue and now my car is a rolling fish tank. If water in boot was not bad enough, it just started to have water in the front passengers side foot well too. Anyone else with this problem?

Sounds like a seal problem with the boot. The right passenger footwear is probably a clogged or kinked drain on the A/C or cabin filter box. Do you get a musty smell from the vents when you first start the car. Common problem that Mini is aware of and has a technical service bulletin out for.

Agree

Likely no musty smell yet (however that issue may have been resolved during manufacture). Takes a couple of months for that to manifest (if it's going to).

I'd have hoped Mini would have fixed the soaked cabin filter issue (which is the cause of the smell), when they issued the TSB back in 2015. The fix was to add some glue to the filter base to build it up so it would not sit in any condensation that may accumulate beneath it. Of course I'd have hoped they still wouldn't be kinking AC drain lines either.

Water in the boot update

so, the water in the passenger foot well is from the air conditioner condensing unit, and they have fixed that. The boot leak they have finally reproduced and they are sending the car over to the body shop to be sealed. The water leak is coming from around the edges where the boot meets the tray of the boot. I am gonna ask them to replace the cabin filter and the flooring pad in the from as well as all of the felt side pieces around the boot area.

Add me to this problem list too

theres a TSB SIB-51-05-16 no luck in finding it online however.

Oh no, I thought this was a Gen 1 and Gen 2 MINI problem. On the Gen 1&2 it was either the drain tubes in the sunroof rear section. Or the gasket seal on the trunk, check both of those.

I think that for other people who had a similar problem this issue was related to water working its way through the lock.

If you read the threads about the musty smell, some of those people have water in the spare tire well.

I have an '18 F56 with the same water in the trunk issue. I didn't know I had the tool locker until the carpet on top of the ledge got damp. That locker was full to the top.

I had the same problem with my 2018 MCS. The real seal was letting water in as well as the left tail light. Mine had about 2 inches of water and caused mildew.

Both of my F56 had water in the Trunk (2015 and 2017) my Dealer replaced the rear hatch seals both times under warranty and it solved the water problem on my cars. I am surprised that the 2018 still have problems with water leaking into the trunk. You would think by now Mini would have resolved this problem.

I have a dealer appointment next Friday. So I'll see what they do.This took about 5 months to start happening.

I've started seeing this in my out of warranty 2012 Clubman. This seems like the most active thread on the topic (sorry it's in the F55 subforum).

as anyone found out if there is a TSB on this (for a dealer fix), or should I have my independent mechanic look at it?

gpayne13 11-19-2018 10:17 AM

I suspect there is one, as when I took mine into the dealer the service person was experiencing the same issue, albeit with an older vehicle, mine was the first 2018 they saw with the problem. They removed all the weather stripping from the rear, replaced and beefed up the corners (apparently where the leak occurs). Mine has not leaked again since the repair was made.

Post up if you find the TSB, I have not seen one yet.
