New Clubman AT is the 8-speed
Looking at Mini's configurator for the new Clubman I see that they've introduced BMW's 8-spd auto trans. For the F56 they're still showing the 6-spd. I wonder how long Mini will continue to offer two AT's, and what the noticeable advantages of the 8-spd might be.

Same transmission from the new 2 Series AT/X1, which I believe is an Aisin unit, and not ZF.
Would make sense for MINI to add it during the refresh of the F56, could not see them doing it before. |
8 speed for S version. 6 speed for base. Base clubman is horrible. 0-60 in 8.9 seconds. Over 3000 lbs with 134 horsepower. We were waiting to see if it will work for me. I have a hybrid - I can do 0-60 in 9 seconds and get 45 mpg. Top of it, you add automatic shift and two simiple options like Cold weather package and sport package - you are looking at $28k.
Only way to get clubman is S version but at that price point there are lot more cars to choose from. Base clubman is a huge disappointment. |

I test drove a Base Cooper before I decided on my S, I loved the peppiness of the 3 cyl engine. It had power right away and was right quick. Yes I am not going to win any drag races but for a base model car that engine is fantastic if you want to get it. For those that need more power then you need to go to the S or JCW models. Best part of the newer 3 cyl engines are they are tune-able very easily and you can get your HP and Torque up to S levels.

Base cooper is 2600 lbs. I drove it too and loved it. I drove the 4 door version which is little heavier but still nimble. .
I have absolutely no idea why. Maybe the longer wheelbase helps with traction? |
