Yesterday and again today, the seatbelt warning chime and dash light came on. I had some very light miscellaneous items in the passenger seat but I turned off the warning by reaching over and fastening the passenger seat belt.

Is that warning system really that sensitive, or should I get something fixed/replaced/reset?

I don't know about the F56, but my R56 chime comes on for a 10-lb backpack. It's obviously annoying and common enough that they sell "Chimex" devices to stick in the seatbelt fastener.

New 2015 F56S over here and same thing on mine...went off with my iPad on the seat...wound up just tossing it in the back seat.
From what I've read, it really is THAT sensitive...

My seatbelt chime is sensitive as well. I suggest you run the passenger side seatbelt around the back of the seat and plug it into the buckle, and then forget about it -- unless you have a passenger. Needles to say, passengers need to wear seatbelts.

mine too, but only on occasion. i usually keep my briefcase on the seat without issue. sometimes, however, it goes off for no reason, and even after removing all items from the seat, the alert still goes.

Incidentally, I had a loaner roadster and it had the same problem.

I wonder if there's a good way to de-sensitize that warning system. Maybe the sensor itself could be moved a little downward so that there has to be more weight in the seat in order to trigger the sensor.

Also, this seems more common than I thought - surely it's not what Mini intended so maybe they already have a "factory" solution. I plan to check with my dealer and meanwhile use the belt fake-fastening method.

Just spoke with my Service Advisor about this. His two comments:

1. They all do that, so don't put stuff on the seat.
2. It MIGHT be that the problem's aggravated by my cellphone, so try putting the cellphone in the footwell net.

My plan: I'm going to test #2 and move on with my life.
