What's the difference between the lite and regular versions?

Not sure, I just know you can do all basic coding with the lite versions

hp79 12-04-2014 11:59 AM

From what I read, the 20+ GB version is for complete ECU flashing which could lead to bricking. For most of us, for tweaking little things, the Lite version is good enough and that's what we should be using.

brando087 12-04-2014 12:12 PM

ok, that makes sense. does it matter what cable i get as long as it is obd II to ethernet?

CooperB 12-04-2014 12:18 PM

^^^ what HP79 and DarkBlueMCS said.

Lite is all you need for FDL coding. The stuff most of us are doing/wanting. They are just tweaks to make certain features do things other than MINI/BMW thought we should have.

Mess up the ECU via FA/VO coding/flash and you're going to be getting it towed to the dealer for a factory re-flash most likely. ;)

brando087 - I will PM you a good source for the cable.

Somebody in this thread bought an OBDII to Ethernet connector, Hopefully it works for him as it was only $5. I paid $20 for mine.

Here is the clear explanation, I have been coding BMW for few years already.
The lite version doesn't come with the parts that needed to update the firmware of the car.
For now you don't need it since F55/F56 is still new. While on BMW, for experienced user, they can be used to update the firmware without the need to go to a dealer.
As far VO code, it will not brick your ECU. If you don't have the hardware, it just won't work.
I played with the F56 a little bit, but I forget to create the cheatsheet.

brando087 12-05-2014 09:18 AM

Awesome. Thanks guys. You cleared up most of my confusion. Ordered my cable this morning. Hopefully I'll be tinkering by middle of next week.

SemperMini 12-05-2014 09:58 AM

My mini hadn't been delivered yet, but I am pretty excited to start tinkering when it does show up. Any chance you would upload a video of the setup and process when you start your tinkering? Would love to see the process instead of just reading about it (visual learner here).

brando087 12-05-2014 02:41 PM

I'll see what I can do.

MarcoPolo 12-06-2014 08:47 AM

Found a mistake in the .docx file.

The correct lines to "enable tails with DRLS" is as follows:

MAPPING_TAGFAHRL_1_H_L_OUTPUT= sl_l
MAPPING_TAGFAHRL_1_H_R_OUTPUT=sl_r

For anyone else having issues getting mirrors to fold in and windows to close with the key fob this:

3056 → KOMFORTSCHLIESSUNG_FB = aktiv 00 (Comfort Access ONLY)

Is NOT just for comfort access. My mirrors will not fold using the keyfob unless this is set and I do not have the $250 comfort access package (which AFAIK only allows auto unlocking when approaching the car from outside). Mirrors unfold immediately when unlocking the car.

You can also change this value:
3056 → KOMFORT_SCHLIESSEN → WERTE = 00 (Mirror Fold Delay = 0 sec delay)

to something else if you don't want the mirrors to fold immediately on lock. Using the '00' setting means 0ms delay so as soon as you press LOCK on the keyfob your mirrors fold in. You can use '0D' to set a 100ms delay which means you have to hold the lock button for a split second before the mirrors fold and windows go up.

Time to start coding!

brando087 12-08-2014 07:29 PM

I've already changed a few options. Once you mess with the software a little, it becomes very easy to figure out. I had an issue with the clutch bypass and had to revert to using the clutch to start. Not sure why it wouldn't work.

tripleTurbo 12-08-2014 07:39 PM

Does anyone know if you can program low beam to stay on with high beam? This would fix my Halogens at night.

SemperMini 12-08-2014 07:42 PM

what benefit would you get from the clutch bypass? Just curious on the rationale. I am so used to pressing the clutch to start I don't even think about it (I often find myself pressing the air on automatics if I drive it short term) so I don't really see the benefit unless you are later going to add a remote start function?

brando087 12-08-2014 07:49 PM

I'd like to get a remote start so I'm just tinkering to see what options I have to work with.

MarcoPolo 12-09-2014 05:07 AM

It'd be great if everyone commented on what they got to succeed so others can be made aware. This should help in people wasting time on a code that so far has been unproven to work.

My list:
Windows/sunroof closed with keyfob
Door handle lights on when backing up
Tails w/drls

I am almost positive you can. I just don't recall the line in BDC where this can be done. I'll look next time I connect E-Sys to the car. I still need to dump all the code so I can reference it quicker.

Agree, 100%. I'm thinking about starting a WIKI with updated coding info that is verified functional as many items in the DOCX file/guide are not correct. It's a good starting point but the actual code is not always correct. Hopefully I will have some time later this week to start the WIKI. ;)

Cooper B ^ The real MVP

DarkBlue15MCS 12-09-2014 02:26 PM

Things I have coded:

Allow video on nav screen while vehicle is in motion

Removed iDrive startup disclaimer

Disable sound seat belt disconnect driver and passenger

Disabled Active Sound Design

Play ringtone from phone

Tire Pressure AND temp

Changed max startup volume for radio to 50%

With auto lock enabled, all doors unlock with ignition shutoff

Front windows roll up with door open

Close windows/sunroof/fold mirrors with key fob AND comfort access button

Turn off radio/nav when door opens

Change blinker blink rate to 4 flashes instead of 3

Changed emergency braking lights to flashing lights

Fog lights on with parking and high beams

I think that's all I have coded
