I tapped the power lines also for using with a GPS : Garmin V, but it only had 10 V at any one time. Not enough to power it.

I ran one from the fuse box and it was fine?

Weird?

Brown and Red wire?

I tried both...

What is the other one? To power the clock on?
When the key is on what Voltage did you get from that one?
This would have prevented having to turn it off if it is 12 Volt?

From what I can figure out,

The red/brown wire is the actual power to the clock.

The other wire is the power to light up the clock when you turn the key on.

I got the same power reading with the key on or off.

Neat installation! Bravo! For many years I wired my V1 in various cars off the fuse box looking for wire that was live only with ignition was on, so I could just leave the detector "on" and it would switch on and off with the key. No thinking involved, so it suited me!

Don't have my car yet, but it sounds like the clock is always on; and if I use the lead for the light, I could avoid the PIA fuse box route? And did you add the ground, or just attach to one already there?

I added the ground. There is a frame member, that has a box mounted to it. I drilled a small hole and installed a small screw. I was worried as there was earlier post about some have a radar dectector hardwired they the installer drilled a holein the roof. This bracket is a good choice.

Did wire my V1 today. Wanted to switch it off with the key - tried several times to measure the clock wire - with car started it was showing 12V, but in never worked - finally got peeved and hooked it up on red- constant power. Tried to run the wire under neath the rear view mirror - did not work - when I tried to put the mirror back, some plastic pieces broke off the base and the mirror does not stay firm - will need to replace. Uff, please be carefull, do not repeat my mistakes.

Hooked the V1 bracket on the liner- seems to work great.

I used a small electrical wire fish tape to feed the wires through the headliner besdie the mirror. I never took the mirror out just had to remove the clock.

Yesterday I hardwired my Passport 8500 using the instructions and pictures shown in this post. I don't t think I would have tried it without this information. To clear up a few things for others who may attempt this. The mirror comes off easily by twisting it 90 degrees to the left. The clock requires a bit of firmness to remove. Grab it on either side and pull down. And there is a gap between the headliner and the roof which make it easy to fish any wires through. Again, thanks for the info.

To understand this you just pull down on the clock???

Push the clock to the front of the car a little and pull down.

Yes, that is the smart cord, I have the hook part of the velcro on it so it sticks to the headliner. I also made it so when I am drive with my wife I can move the smartcord to the other side and my wife can mute the alarm.

Thanks for the feedback. I really hate dangling cords. I like things in the MINI to be neat and done correctly.

Also, I put a small notch in the clock cover for the cord to come out of and not pinch the headliner.

Cool I will have to try this when I get my Valentine One. But I looked at the wires at there is no red/brown, only a red/green and a black/brown?

If you can take a power reading, check the red/green wire with the key off.

So I hook it up to the red/green wire, then ground the black one on the metal in the headrest behind the clock?

That would be correct. Be careful when drilling the hole for the gorund . When it starts to break the surface stop and then use a small screw to attach the ground.
