Rear fogs used as add'l tailights?

I'm considering adding the rear fogs to my 2010 and then wiring them to the taillights using a lower wattage bulb than normally installed in the fogs. This way I get more light to the rear without offending the constabulary. Has anyone done this? Will the pesky computer get confused if it sees an extra 20w draw on the taillight circuit?

How about just installing the flashing 3rd brake module to get their attention ? It is a small pc board you attach in line with your 3rd brake light harness.

I put one in mine, When I step on the brakes, the 3rd brake light in back window flashes really fast three times then stays on solid.

If you go the fog light approach, install a set of replacment super bright LED bulbs. They will be about the brightness you want and will not draw too much power frm your BCM. They can be expensive to replace.

The idea is to have the fog lights on all the time but have them match the intensity of the oem taillights. I assume the stock taillights have 8-10w bulbs so all I need to do is use similar bulbs in the fogs.

There is a vendor here on N A M that sells a kit for that.

Their ad says it is "Brake Lights", but after installing, I discovered it works for both tail and brake, with correct brightness for each. And I have seen no bulb/wattage warnings.

If you have the stock rear foglights, the car is likely to tell you there is a problem. Maybe the dealer can reprogram it.

EDIT: The vendor was Minspeed. (www.minspeed.net) Their website seems to not exist any more, and a quick search here on NAM could not find them.

Shouldn't be much harder than running a short wire up to the brake light. Keep in mind the foglight is single filament. If you want to use them as both a foglight and a brake light use a diode to keep the foglight from lighting up the brake lights.

I have a question. Has anyone out there added rear fogs? How much did you pay for programming? I am debating whether or not to simply run a relay off the front fogs and be done with it. Not looking forward to ripping the dash apart just to snap in that rocker switch body.

GoMiniGo supplied the kits that were sold by Minspeed:

The kit makes the rear fog function as running/brake lights with dual intensity

LED rear Fogs INSTALLED AND LIT!!!!

The LED Rear Fogs alow you to use them for Parking as well as Brake lights....you can also wire them direct to the existing front Fog Lights if you just want them on when the front fogs are on, which are usually on at the same time anyway...If you wire them to the front Fogs, there is no tricky toggle switch work and no reprogramming and no Bulb out Warning on the dash!

here is a link to what i did with pics.
