Retrofit MFSW cruise + radio controls R56 R55 R57

R55, R56, R57 only: I was finally able to get the shop car that was ordered WITH the MFSW but produced without it (and billed as having it) retrofitted. I originally thought it could be done by just adding the actual control buttons and modules but in reality it is a $1,100 upgrade (in parts) plus 1-2 hours of dealer time to program the beast. Here is what is required:

1- 32306782596 steering wheel which seems to include the actual buttons and wiring $ 630
1- 61313451901 switch unit which is what holds the turn signals and such in place $ 495

So, long story and two years and 3 months later I now have the MFSW that I paid for when I custom ordered the MINI!

If anyone wants to order this kit let me know and I can get it for you at a discounted price so you too can be in driving bliss with full control of Cruise and your stereo.....

I was reading on another forum that cars made after 8/07 I believe are easier to integrate the MFSW controls if you didn't get them, as long as you have the 3-stem sport steering wheel. All you have to do is order the parts and get the computer flashed and it works. Has anyone else heard this? Just wanted to see.

I have heard this as well. I'm a little upset that i didn't order the MFSW on my 08. This is one thing i would like to get done when i upgrade to the JCW steering wheel.

I have a R57 7/09 production car, and it would be great to do this MOD, my concern is, what about Cruise Control? Arent there other componants under the hood, or is it all controlled by the ECM?

This thread has a lot of information about adding MFSW --

Just a reminder that on top of the cost of parts as Outmotoring mentioned there will be a 1-2 hour dealer labor charge for the programming which I believe costs around $125 per hour. That's assumng your dealer will even attempt the retrofit and not claim it can't be done.

Coen,
You should have the correct column switch control so it would be a simple switch install and program. I'll be in Amsterdam this summer with my reflash device and power supply:grin: I'll pm you over on the Underground.

Here was my recent experience

I just went through this last month....all i needed to do was purchase 2 things, and 1 hr of programming. you DO NOT need to buy a whole new steering wheel....you just need the multi-function switches, they are $171 from www.allminiparts.com,

http://www.allminiparts.com/products...306773645.html

also you may need to replace the Switch assembly that runs the Wipers and Signal lights...i negotiated that price at the Dealer for $398....then all you need is to have them activate it and you are good to go....Now that being said, Have them see if they can program it first without buying the signal light assembly, some cars have the right one, mine just didnt....Dont let the dealer talk you into 2 hrs for the program, thats BS....tell them that you will only pay for an hour.

If they tell you it is necessary to replace the Steering wheel switch assembly, then make sure the part numbers are different on the one they plan to use...also if they need to replace it make sure you get the old part from them to possibly sell it on Ebay.

According to realeom.com, that switch unit works for MFSW
with Xenon Light but with neither Rain Sensor nor Dynamic stability control.
Our 9/19/2008 delivery Cooper S reportedly requires p/n 61313451892,
which realoem.com lists for DSC+Xenon without Rain sensor.

Ya I am in the same process but, guess what if it wasn't ordered with MFSW you have to do more then just plug the buttons and go and have it programmed. Me its going to be a total upgrade of around the same but, I already had a 3 spoke steering wheel so that saved me some money. Parts and labor for everything is going to cost me about the same.

I purchased and installed the MFSW switchs in my 2008 r56. The connector with pins was there in the steering wheel to plug the cable into. So am I correct in thinking I have the correct module and now only need programming ?

A bit off topic: I have the MFSW in my 2005 R53. Is there any way to add blue tooth phone connectivity? I did not order this feature from the factory.

Thanks!

Erik

As you have a gen 1 car you will get better answers over in the gen 1 section.

If you will read a post that I made concerning the column switch. I converted my 2008 but had to change the column switch. Even though the mfsw will plug into your column switch, the column switch probably does not contain the correct electronics to make the mfsw work.

I bought a mfsw and the column switch off of a wrecked 2007 cooper. I first tried just putting the mfsw on my existing 2008 column switch but it would not program at the dealer.

I then put the column switch of the wrecked vehicle on my cooper and it programmed and worked perfectly.

Thanks, thats exactly what happened.. I now need to find a used SZL

I just got out of my local mini dealer (mini of Ontario in California) they told me it was 13,000 process to add cruise control. if you have any information i'd really appreciate it. I just bought my mini last thursday its a 2008 mini cooper S. i checked out these forums first so I thought it would only be a $300-1,000 job so i didnt mind it. especially if it was closer to the $300 mark. i drive 42 miles each way from work and home and i need cruise control. please any specifics would help

I called 3 other local dealerships that are within an hour drive from me and they all told me it would be cheaper to buy a newer model than to have it retrofitted. all say upwards of 10k which is crazy expensive since i got the car for 14k with 60k miles on it

I have the 3 spoke sport steering wheel

jacknk 09-17-2013 01:47 PM

Read my post. The best I recall I paid $125 for the steering column including the steering wheel with the cruise buttons. My dealer did not even charge me to program it since I had bought so many parts rebuilding the engine.
