Engine Break in period

Is there a recommended amount of time one should wait before adding a CAI and exhaust on a brand new mini? I haven't asked the dealer what the break-in period is yet in terms of miles, but I was just wondering if I should wait awhile before I start adding stuff. Thanks!

You can mod anytime.

From a technical standpoint you can wait 3 seconds after you make your purchase to start adding CAI or exhaust. Just long enough to wonder... what if?

Your break in period (1250 miles) is for the benefit of the engine, clutch, new brakes and new tires. Just follow your owner's manual.

From a driver skill standpoint you should try to leave your MINI stock as long as is reasonable for you to learn how to drive the car. This allows you to appreciate the upgrades that you add. There really is no rush to mod if you are using your MINI primarily for street use.

FWIW, I waited until the recommended 1250 mile mark before the MTH download.

Well, there was no reason to. Break-in is a mechanical, physical thing. Metals gets worn and smoothed, surfaces get patterened and tempered. It doesn't matter what you add to the car, as long as you follow the restrictions of the break-in period. Going 1/2 throttle and varrying the position, staying under 4500krpm is the same with all the stock equipment as with any aftermarket.

I did my CAI at 1300 miles, and exhaust at 2100 miles!

I waited for the break in period to end. Adding aftermarket parts will not be bad, per say, it is the lack of self control the driver exhibits when listening to his MINI that may violate the break in period!
