How to get: Street Power
Hi, Let me start off by saying i do not want to turn my mini into a track car.
I purely want to give it some more power for on the roads/Highway ect, Cause i do my fair share of speeding and street racing. Regardless i just bought this mini and not quite sure what has been done to it, I already had a thread addressing that however. So it has a upgraded Borla exhaust system Madness CAI I installed a M7 Strut bar with strut supports So far that is my only performance upgrades as of my knowledge( I am not sure if there is a upgraded pulley and don't know how to find out) What are the beginner horsepower upgrades that i would need for the street? What do you recommend? And can they be a DIY, if so is there already one? Thank-you in advance :) |

Buy some track time! You already got a decent start - Pulley - if its black and looks like a plane pulley with no logos or extra bolts then its stock. Easy DIY Can do a crank pulley too. lighter wheels intercooler those are the basics, all easy. Next would be a tune. (man I'm getting old.......) Nik |
Okay i am kind of a novice in this deparment but the pulley is on the left side of the engine? And i know its kind of tucked away so ill have to go digging to see if its upgraded :) and dosent track racing a car really kill it for daily driving? 5 point harness and such

yeah, facing the car left side. You can easily see it with a flash light. Its the highest up pulley. If it has a smooth face - its aftermarket.

Also could somone link the DIY pulley removal and upgrade thread, assuming there is one
Edit: the pulley i have is deffinatly stock |

It looks like it has 4 bolts holding it on so I think it is safe to assume you already have a smaller pulley. The pic here shows the stock black pulley with no bolts holding it on.

It's kinda hard to see, but in the second picture it looks like an aftermarket pulley. I can't remember the company that made that one.
I have the alta (below) still hard to see. Attachment 159279 The stock pulley looks like this. Attachment 159280 Nik |
Cool so that means that department is covered :) Next step would be.. a intercooler? better fuel injectors?

It looks like you have a Promini or Helix pulley. Either way that just saved you a couple hundred.
As I've found over the years 90% of owners never track their car, but like you they all "drive them hard on the street" So most mods you will find are street worthy for your car. Since you just bought it I would suggest doing some maint upgrades like plugs, wires, belts, worn control arm bushings, and so on before continuing with mods. Without good basics the mods won't be good. also the crank pulleys on these cars fail often so an ATI super damper crank pulley could be a good maint and mod upgrade at the same time. |
^ As Way said, get the ATI, it's a great maintenance upgrade! I just put the +2% on a few weeks back.

When you say "street power" do you mean fast in a straight line? Or fast around a corner? Either way, i would definitely recommend some suspension/wheel set up. PSS9s with some Breytons would be killer.
Drop me a line and I can definitely help you out. |
Uhm, Both really? mostly in a straight line i guess, Just picked up my Escort 9500 ix
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...YL._SY300_.jpg So that should keep me safe hopefully. But yeah just good power increases and like i said earlier i am a novice on the DIY scale but i want to learn so hopefully these upgrades come with instructions :) |
