Stock Intercooler Dimensions

What is the core size of the stock intercooler?

11"W x 7"D x 2"H

 What you up to :)

What is the intercooler inlet and outlet hose diameter? Two different sizes
(a) 3 1/2"
(b) 4 1/4"
(c) 4 5/6"

None of the above. You failed the multiple choice test.

I know you are tying to "upgrade" to silicone hoses that are stretch over. I opine changing the OE rubber couplers to neon colour silicone hose is not an upgrade but just cosmetic embellishment. The OE couplers are not hoses. They are purpose-design reliable parts.

This it's a good point, if the intent is to change to silicone couplers make sure you buy something that has been formed correctly for the Mini I/C. Even if it's the right size (internal dimension) if it's not formed to.the correct oval, it won't seal correctly, without risking cutting into it with the couplers. (Which BTW would require modifying, since they are designed with "stops" to prevent clamping them too tight)

Hmmm. I wonder if a properly prepped OEM coupler could be sprayed with PeelCoat?

Should be a fairly inexpensive experiment anyway.

To find out the ID of the OE hoses:
  • Take a tape measure like you would measure your belly.
  • Measure the waist size of the two ends of the intercooler neck, and call these C1 and C2.
  • Calculate D1 and D2 where D = C / 3.1416
  • Factor in a stretch factor of the silicone round hose. e.g. multiply the number by 0.85

Remember, the hoses and the clamps needs to withstand about 1 atmosphere of pressure (about 15 PSI).
