Help with Driving School

Hello All,

I'm a total newbie at this driving school thing, but I want to start learning how to drive on the track and have a few questions--

1) I live in SoCal (Orange County), and I tried to google and see where driving schools are, but I just cant find anything... anyone have any suggestions on where I should go to "start" learning?

2) Front Wheel Drive vs Rear Wheel Drive. I used to have an M3, and wanted to ask people here if they feel any difference learning to drive with a FWD vs a RWD car. Ie, if you have a RWD, you can power out of corners when you fishtail, etc. As a newbie, does it matter for me to start learning on FWD?

3) What equip do I need to get started? Just a helmet?

sorry for the question, I'm completely new at this and would appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

Phil Wicks is holding his MINI Driving Academy at Streets of Willow Springs on Saturday May 12 and Sunday May 13. I know of several SoCal MINI Maniacs planning to attend.

I never owned an M3 (although I'd like to), but I can tell you what someone here on this board PM'd me once. He had an M3, but now DE's with a Cooper, and said that he learned much more about driving with the Cooper. The M3 was so good, it did all the work, and driving it to it's potential was way beyond him. A MINI kind of demands that you learn to drive it. His comment, but I understand where he was coming from. It's sort of like when people say it's more fun to drive a slow car fast.
