Autocross-ish

I've never done a real autocross so i wasn't sure where to put this post. You have to be a member of the South Carolina BMW CCA. It's called the sandlapper chapter. The big deal is that their territory covers the BMW plant. We get to do a lot of fun and exciting things for dirt cheap there. Here's the next one coming up. It's billed as a really big autocross. speeds upto 85 or so. It's on their test track behind the Performance Center. I did it a few months ago and had a blast. You get three timed runs and lots of untimed ones. I do know that this time we will not have to work the cones. Out of the 30+ cars there last time i came in third. Again i've never done an autocross but lots of driving schools. the first place car was a 2.8 Z3 coupe and the second place car out of nowhere was an M3 comp package. all of us with in a half second of each other and 2 seconds ahead of everyone else.

If you go to maps.google and look up greer, sc you will the the BMW plant. look just across hwy101 from that and you can see their track. It's an older satalite picture so you can't see their new high speed track out back. they don't let us play on that anyway.

I think the cost is 35 a year for the club. the other big event we get to do there is called the post holiday recovery party. It's in early January. At that event they break up their track in to 3 parts and let you drive EVERY BMW they make for a day. That included the M's. We do a wet skid pad chase, a dry skid pad chase a nice little loop in some of the big cars and last year we did a timed autocross in the M3's. it's 70 bucks for the day and they feed you a nice dinner and give away loads of crap. Money well spent to say the least.

Hope to see all you autoX peeps there so i can show you a thing or two at speed.
remember, BMWs and new MINI's only.

864-250-0022 number for BMW NA. tell them you want to join the sandlapper chapter.

Is this event the same as the one happening this weekend? The Euro auto festival or completely different?

Dude this BWM thing sounds great. I am just about an hour away. This is way cool. So what do I need to do? Join the BMW Club and also the sandlapper chapter. Is there a link to all this info? Is there a list of events? Sorry to ask too many questions... I just stoked. Thx

this is not the same at the eurofest one. that one takes place in the parking lot of the plant.

To join just call that number i left. It's BMW CCA. When you join you have to specify what chapter you want to be in. To do these events you have to be in the sandlapper chapter. You can put yourself in whatever chapter you want. I'm in two. Each additional one is an extra 15 bucks a year. I'm also in the tarheel chapter which in North Carolina. They do more driving schools up at VIR. I have atteneded all of their schools for the past three years.

Sign up soon and i'll forward you the app. to the Dec. 10th thing at the performance center.

The Solo 2 discussion forum is where you want to go for the mainstream Autocross threads.

I've never done a real autocross just this. We did the same thing back in June at the performance center. Lots of fun but it is on a track.

OK, word on the street is that someone is bringing a ringer with them. Would that be you Tirewarmer? I hear that the ringer is really a VW driver but to get in this he's co-driving a MINI with the car owner.

Anyone else signed up? I was one of two MINI's out there last time. I hope to see lots of you. I did get the third best time also. I've never done an auto-X by the way.
