Minimania sells the "ULTRIK" frame for $1800.
www.minimania.com The Steve Alexander frame is still in development, but last I heard it got pushed back a while. |
if you whant a fast mini i have seen a classic mini with hayabusa in it it had 173 hp and did o to 60 in 2.8 secs and top speed 153 but then it is just not a mini with out the mini motor ....but thare is a shop hear in Wi that wants to put a 1.6 VTEC in my mini but i would like it keep my mini original with some mini go fast parts of corse but that is my opinion but it would be fun to have a mini that does 0 to 60 it 2.8 secs
|
Yeah, it had a hayabusa engine, but I'll bet you $100 that it also had a huge metal firewall taking up the rear half of the interior! Any bike engined cars I've seen have been pretty crude machines that were almost always purpose-built track cars.
I'm going to go with the Brian Campbell frame (Ultrik through Minimania). As nice as Steve Alexander's frame is... it's vapor ware still. :( |
If all you want is a scarey fast Mini, I've seen a classic (road registered in New Zealand) with a 454 Chev motor sitting where the back seat used to be.
I also (somewhere) have a picture of a Mini van converted to a drag car. Also with a big block v8, but this time it was mostly under the bonnet, and it had been converted to rear wheel drive. The bug-catcher intake was in a cutout in the middle of the windscreen. Gonna have to find and scan that pic one of these days. |
Holy crap! I always joke around with my friends since the cooper is so slow, that i plan to drop either a 454 or a 514 in the car, jokingly of course. But since this is real, it out to be interesting.

Take a look at these then guys. Taken from Himley Hall show (UK) last year, infact its on again this sunday coming, will try and get some more info on whats used for you peeps :D
Anyways...the white Mini i believe has an R1 bike engine, and the yellow Mini has a Vauxhall (GM) 2.0 16v with carbs ...wooooow http://www.essentialmini.co.uk/classic1600.jpg http://www.essentialmini.co.uk/classic2600.jpg http://www.essentialmini.co.uk/classic3600.jpg |
ZCars is now producing motorcycle conversion kits. I personally think that this is the ultimate. The motor is just so much lighter than the honda variants and the cars are rwd.

It also looks like the Z'd cars also make a rear-subframe that houses a vtec engine. If you check out their site, they go through and explain what you get with it. It is a pretty trick rearsubframe with suspension parts and everything you need. The bike engine is pretty sick though...
|
I believe their Honda conversion uses the superior K series (Honda not Rover) engine. The bike engine is cool, but ... it's chain driven. The mini weighs more than a bike. I would beat the car like a red-headed stepchild... so driveshafts it is. ;)
I was told the kit is 5300 GBP. Last time I checked that works out to $9200 or so USD. Expensive, but you do get a lot in it! I have their bike engine build DVD. Very cool. I can only imagine what a 4 banger with some torque like the K series would do.... but I gotta admit the bike engine sounds nice! |

hey guys,
i saw a thread about vtec powered mini's ....got excited to talk about it ... i got one ... and yes it is one hell of a wild drive mine is powered by a b18c ... that came out of a integra gs-r ... more power/ torque than the b16type R and alil less the the b18type R... but it is FAST ... very FAST ... lemme know what you guys think ... I am interested to see how your install went. It looks really clean. Did you build the subframe yourself?
|
I believe... "Sick" is the appropriate word here. ;)
Nice mini, man! |
thank you thank you !!! umm i actually bought the car from a guy in SC .. he had it imported and then built by MiniTec.. who makes the Tube frame ... i have plans to do a B16 head ported/polished and a ITR cams for now ... then in the future a full NA build or possibly alil boost...

Theres folks in Australia dumping Starlet Turbo engines into these minis - scary stuff :eek2:
|
Is there anyone in Southern California with a Vtec Mini? I've been researching them for awhile and would love to actually SEE one in person and hear what your experiences were getting it or building it. Thanks!
|
Check this out. Incar video of a VTEC honda engined mini going a full lap topped out around the Nurbrigring in Germany. Awesome.

Want to know what would be REALLY SICK? Turbo LS V-TEC Mini.. Just imagine.. around 600whp..
|
Anything over...
200 hp is a waste of time, hp, and lots of money. Even at 200 its hard to keep the front wheels from spinnig.
|
I'm assuming the last link was the "RingMini". Crazy-ass SOHC VTEC Mini (Mini van). In one of his videos he's givin' it large to some e30 M3s. :) DIE BMW-YUPPIE-ALWAYS-VALET-SCUM! Err...sorry...apologies to MINI owners. ;)
I have another video where they show a turbocharged A series engine putting out somewhere very near 200hp. It's all over the place on the straight...so I can't imagine trying to *turn* the car with that power goin to the wheels. |

The good news for us in Southern California is that there is a shop here that will be building and selling the VTec Minis locally. They are using the same kit as the GoMini company but they have solved some of the problems with the original install. Very high quality and VERY expensive. I am on the waiting list. Here is a photo I snapped over the weekend: Attachment 171544
and another: Attachment 171545 |
