I have an 84 cooper with a 1275 and I looked on the side of the distributor and it says 65D. I can't seem to find an electonic distributor setup for that, but to be honest it looks like it is one already. I don't see any points inside the cap, but it is a Lucas unit. If this is an electronic unit, thn are these reliable? Is it worth changing out to an upgraded unit?

Any help here would be great. I tried to search, but came up with nothing for "65d" and I appologize if this has been covered before. If it has, could you just link it to me.

Yes the 65D is an early electronic iginition .. there are no points to be gotten rid of. So unless the dizzy itself seems to be worn there's no 'upgrade' like that for a 25 or 45 where one usually is replacing the points with some sort of electronic module.

The 65 still has a cap and a rotor that could need to be replaced as would possibly the wires and the coil . .

Haynes covers this dizzy.

OK I will have to check the haynes and do some testing to see what kind of shape it's in. Thanks.

Is it a decent setup though? Do people ever have trouble with the 65Ds?
