I don't get it...I've already designed one like this for M7 three years ago...

I'd have to say no.... Similar in shape, the P.U. Scoop still has a bit more height/Bulge to it, Msfitoy's looks a bit more recessed into the hood. It's similar in that the scoop has more angle to it's opening.

Well, the real "problem" with the original PU scoop was not the scoop area, but the actual mouth opening area. The ratio of the two areas was at least 1:4 and could have been much smaller (ie the opening was substantially smaller than the mouth.) What this means is that the velocity of air being "pushed" into the IC was very high. This causes some problems: it creates back-pressure and may overload the capacity of the IC to flow the cooling air. The ideal scoop has a very large opening to allow a large volume of air to flow into the IC--something the M7 scoop does compared to the OEM scoop, for example.

Consider this comparison (as an example only):

and finally:

I haven't seen good photos of the new PU prototype, but if it's modeled after the original PU scoop, it has an opening about the same size as the OEM scoop.

I'd look elsewhere for a scoop...

That's the RBH (Really Big Hole) DF (Direct Flow) Ram scoop with optional FAD (Fresh Air Diverter). There's only one on the planet. The opening is 4x that of the OEM scoop. The FAD ducts air directly to the airbox.

Ahhaah! From the originator of the RBH scoop--Joel himself! You know Joel, I'm always honored to appear in the same threads as you--and in this case it couldn't be truer as I know we share both an appreciation of the aesthetic and a love of lots of air entering the IC!!
Are you doing anything to control the flow to the right of the IC--on the exit horn side?

cheers, siempre

It's my honor and pleasure to share ideas with you and everyone else.
Yes, I built a difuser that channels the air from exit side. Here's a photo of that item:

Here is the Bull Dog scoop . It's a heavily trimmed stock scoop with a VIS CF top.

Still, the lighted engine bay thingy is pretty cool...do you run it with the lights on while driving?

I see you are also running a vent for the intake log - cool (pun intended).
You are right. A LARGE opening can be achieved by trimming the stock scoop back. I see you're running a RMW IC. Is that a front mount IC?

Yeh, Longboard's intake path is so incredible it doesn't even count--it's like chalk and cheese.

...and I think the pink cruiser is pretty cool!

The IC has been off the car getting some new end tanks from Bell. It's a huge top mount that sits perfectly centered in the scoop.

Ya, while the car has been down I got bored and fabricated my air chamber based on the IMD. It is a little different because I have a down draft intercooler. I added a very cool ARC cool fin heat sink to the log.

Longboard

Here a couple more pic. The heat shield is double sided and four layers thick and acts as a seal for the chamber.

Wow, really interesting to see all the different versions of the M7 Scoop. Really nice how you guys have been able to maximize the air flow. That's a discussion in itself since it really pertains to the DFIC, looks like there is a good amount of adjustments to make to get it dialed in.

I'm awaiting my GP intercooler, should be here in the next week. The only adjustments I've made was to cut the plastic ring from the OEM scoop to allow for a better fit, and I still have the rest of the panel there so the foam keeps a good sealed path to the IC. I am going to go through some pictures to see if I have some better angles of the scoop.

It's a Hamann grill from Germany, It's a plastic piece, I had it painted black to match although I'm sure you can Prime it and paint it Chrome... You might be able to pick it up through:

http://www.bavauto.com/shop.asp

I got mine a while back so I'm not sure about availability, It also took about 2 months to get to me.....Dang Customs!!

I've been very pleased with it
Like some, I love the designs, incl the scoop, but I get a sense Uber's business skills are somewhat impared.

Nice looking MINI BTW Love the theme.

Here are a few close ups I pulled together, I apologize for not having a front on shot to show the opening.
I will be unable to get that shot right now since the scoop is back with P.U.
When I have it in my hands I will get some shots to compare the openings.

Eurothrasher, thanks for the kind words, and I agree with you.
I like the designs of their products and I think their scoops have a unique look to them within the mini aftermarket world.
I know that they have had on going issues here on nam, and are no longer a vendor. I still think it's worth posting another nice scoop being made by them..

I recently purchased and installed Palo Uber's hood scoop, the black painted fiberglass model, and love it.

Not only was the fit-and-finish top-notch, but it was very easy to install. Their customer service was excellent, and I'd recommend buying from them.

I realize that I am very much the exception to the rule around here; most complain how horrible their products and customer service is, but my experience was different, and pleasant.

Good to hear someone else has had a good experience with P.U.
I'm hoping to get my hands on the Proto Scoop again shortly so I can provide some straight on shots of the scoop opening. More soon...
