Quote: I think a reasonable person would either blow it off and not make any assumption, or take the time to look at the video before jumping to a conclusion and publicly criticizing the ad.
As noted, it's a matter of opinions and opinions are what they are.

My opinion is that a reasonable person would see something that could be misinterpreted, that could seen as damning to an individual or group, could be seen as marring the image of the brand, or seen as negatively influencing a customer or potential customer and, seeing that, they should bring it to the attention of the general public for discussion to see if it's a valid concern. Apparently, a number of people do think so. And a number don't. We're not calling for heads to roll or cars to be abandoned. Just for a bit more sensitivity in what the world sees the first time they open MINIUSA. Another opinion of reasonable people is that you don't get a second chance to make a first impression.

Society has become overly sensitive about things.........it typically occurs because of lack of knowledge of the subject matter and the intent.

i am i member of the politically incorrect club and have been sent to "sensitivity training" so many times i qualify for a group discount

not to worry, the training did not take, but i did manage to teach the trainers some new vocabulary words

Sometimes people are unconsciously looking for things to be outraged about. In the context of the video it's apparently clear what the intent is, and even at first glance of the photo I couldn't discern the genders of the people in the photo. Who cares? This is silly to be upset about.

Some friends of mine were arguing yesterday about how shameful it is that The Walking Dead has become a "White Male Patriarchy"

Not everything is supposed to be politically charged, chill out.

Quote: Though not clear, I know what that second picture in row one looks like. And I'm not at all happy about it being labeled Not Normal. Who ever cleared that needs to be talked to. I know MINI isn't Subaru, but they need to take a look at who all buys their product.

I think your reading way too much into that pic

Clearly appears to be M/F to me, I even used a magnifier and was not able to detect even a hint of a moustache..

All kidding aside, I believe what they are relating here is the atypical lack of "PDA" (public display of Affection) between M/F couples of that age group....

But the 4th image ! ? ....I am pretty sure that is illegal in at least 23 states.

When two people have a simple difference of opinion, no problem.

But when there are opinions based on incorrect assumptions, that opinion is flawed.

A few posters really showed their ignorance in this thread.

Ok, so you've let everyone know you don't like gay people without having to actually say it. Bravo for you, I guess.

Oh, wow -- I just thought it was a man and woman, didn't even think twice until I saw this. Doesn't make it any less normal with same-sex. Either way, I thought it was in poor taste before I even saw this: bad pic choice.

Two things that should never be discussed in general, unless your with your family or spouse, religion and politics(sexual orientation, abortion, and so on). This post should be deleted in general, IMO.

So MINI showed a lack of judgment because they failed to account for the fact that some people would (1) mistake a photo of a man and woman kissing as a photo of two men kissing, and (2) on the basis of that misperception, attribute an anti-gay agenda to the company?

In other words, MINI should have gone out of its way to make abundantly sure the photo was CLEARLY a heterosexual company kissing, lest people read an anti-gay agenda into the photo.

Are we a tad too sensitive maybe? :chill pill:

If anything, their failure to scrutinize every photo for anything that might remotely resemble homosexuality arguably shows that MINI sees nothing remarkable about being gay.

(Oh, and I also support deleting this thread.)

Who cares. Mini is selling cars. I think people are way too sensitive and jump to wild conclusions. It (this thread) was not an interesting read that's for sure. But being in the Countryman Forum is pretty funny. Fact is life is too short to get worked up over this. Most folks have more important things to worry about.
