Glad to hear they are going to total it for you! Are they going to pay it off though, or just "replacement value"? Did you have GAP insurance?

Quote: Going through the other company because they have been much better to work with than my own name brand carrier. Pisses me off that my own company won't advocate for me even considering the money is all coming from the at fault driver's company. Looks like I'll be shopping cars and insurance carriers.
Out the carrier? I definitely want to make sure I don't have them...

Before you make that decision, wouldn't you be interested to know just what it is that they didn't do ? Might be something they shouldn't even be expected to do.

That's why I asked.

For instance, if he's upset his insurance company didn't argue with the other company about his total loss value, then he has no grounds to be upset with them. One insurance company doesn't have that kind of leverage with another. Just like we can't make the other carrier accept liability.

If one carrier is accepting liability, and no dispute remains, it's absolutely normal for the other to step aside.

Congrats on the good news. Keep us posted as to what you get next. I'm sure it will pop up on CL soon as a salvage title. Unless no one reports it as such - which happens more than you might expect.

Just wanted to let you know that my carrier was very poor with communication and walking me through my options. As I got passed from dept to dept (4 diff reps), the communication still remained bad (not returning calls, not responding to emails). I had to actually call my local guy who is just a sales rep, and low and behold somebody from corporate returned my call within the hour.

I understand that they cannot force the other party's hand, but they should at the least provide some guidance to their paying customers. All I got was the "I cannot tell you what to do, it's your decision" line over and over. Really? No kidding.

I must say that when I had claims with State Farm and AllState, they were very good to work with. Looks like I'll be headed back. That's what I get for choosing based on price. You get what you pay for.

OK... that is a legitimate complaint. Even if you let the at-fault carrier handle your total loss, your own company certainly should have been more respisive to explain your options and the claim process to you.

I'm an adjuster with State Farm. We're very proud of our claim service and routinely rank in the top 1-3 companies in that area. Get a quote and come on back!

One is left to assume GEICO, Farmers, or Progressive.

I've been told that Allstate and State Farm are the two companies, that if you dont have yourself, are what you want the other parties insurance to be LOL.

I'm also curious what the total value was. Thats my biggest concern with not carrying GAP even though I'm almost never upside down on my vehicles.

It was none of those. Let's just say they offer "new car replacement" which they tell me I did not have on my policy. I'm pretty sure I would have opted for the one year coverage of NCR if I knew my brand new car would already have that addendum. Again, why wouldn't they have tried to sell me on it upfront if it was extra? Marketing ploy?

Shopping for a black with white hat All4 with bench seat and AT. If you own one and regret the color choice, send me a message.

sorry to read about this crash, belatedly, but as a father of kids with roughly similar age spreads (now 16 mo and 3.5 yrs) it's somewhat relieving to know you all walked away from that terrible incident. Good luck on the new All4 hunt!

I also am reading a bit late, but I'm glad your family was ok. I'm sorry about all the insurance craziness! An accident of this kind is already terrible, having to deal with companies not providing their best is even worse.

I have to admit I cringed when I saw your front wheel =/ Let us know what new All4 you decide on!
