Hello! I'm new with questions.

What is a CVT? disadvantage? advantage? Why? I have a 2003 Mini Cooper S, bought it used and I'm not sure if it has CVT. Thanks!

Eric_Rowland Jun 29, 2006 12:25 PM

It does not. Only the Cooper has the CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission.) You'd know because it acts as an automatic.

Advantage: Optimal engine speed/torque
Disadvantage: New technology, though it doesn't appear to be fragile

Welcome to the MINI world!

Hi there - welcome! If you have a stick shift, you don't have CVT. CVT is the automatic version of the MINI. So we need more scoopage - color, options, etc.

Thanks Guys! another question but probably an obvious answer. MCS= mini cooper S? MC= mini cooper? sorry but I need to find out for future searches. Thx again.

The automatic was not even an option on the 2003 MCS.

Hello, zer03s! Welcome to NAM.

There are a bunch of abbreviations used on this site. You might want to check out this thread as a cheat sheet. It helps decipher the 'alphabet soup' you will find here.
