Super new to MINI, proud new owner!

So I traded in my truck last weekend for a 2013 Mini Cooper S Hardtop. I think its an R56. Not sure about these R numbers yet. So far I love the car, I look forward to learning all about these little rides. Glad to be a part of this forum.

Hi Fig, welcome to NAM.
Yes, 2013 is the last year of the R series cooper. Yours is the R56. In 2014 they came out with the F series.
Post some pics of the new ride :)

Curious, what does it feel like downsizing from a truck to a mini? What kind of truck did you have?

Fig 11-01-2018 06:26 AM

It feels crazy. I had a 2018 F250, lifted, tires, the whole 9. A recent change in my life has prompted the change to the MINI. So far I love the car. Getting used to it’s micro size will take some time though. :) I will post some pics once I get it back. It’s at the dealership now getting some issues fixed that were missed at the time of sale.

pics of said monster truck!
I bet you've got plans to mod the mini

Welcome to the forum and the MINI experience. 2013 is one of the best years of MINIs to own (in my opinion). MINI seems to take some time working the bugs out and they had it pretty good by 2013 in time to change the model for 2014.

We need pictures and details.

Did you get any pictures of the old and new vehicles together to remind you of the transition?

Hi and welcome to NAM!
Now show us some pics!

Congrats you'll love your new R56:)

I don't have any pics of my Ford, it was a work truck, so nothing special. Here are some pics of Joie. It's going to be given to my daughter, and she has already named the Mini.

First mod already done - muffler delete. My daughter LOVES the backfire/burble noise in sport when downshifting.

Mods immediately to follow are tint, stripe removal, all LED bulb convert with coding to follow, HID retrofit with Morimoto projectors and clear lenses,
Kenwood receiver, run flat tires - well those will be done later. Just to name a few.

Nice looking MINI (I kinda like the stripes). Runflats seem like such a good idea, especially since there's no spare and this will be your daughter's car, but they seriously compromise ride quality.

Welcome, First time i have seen that company exhaust on a MINI.

Fig 11-06-2018 08:30 AM

Thank you for the compliments cooper48. I have been hearing bad things about the run flats. Obviously it will be compromised some due to the nature of the tire, but I have been hearing that it rides horrible. I guess I need to ride in one before I decide. If I don't go with run flats, I will most likely just purchase a used wheel and tire and keep it at the house, and play rescue Daddy if the need arises.

ECSTuning, they are just MBRP tips. She picked them out. She also wants to eliminate the chrome on the car, so she started with new tips.

Nice pics Fig. Cool looking R56.
It looks like it already has HID headlights, so how come you're planning to switch out the lenses?

Fig 11-08-2018 07:19 AM

Thanks iankun. There is another thread here, where techman1 got a kit from TRS (The Retrofit Source) and swapped out projectors and lenses. He said it takes a lot of patience and slight modding, but he was able to get a D2S 4.0 projector with a clear lens in the stock location thus retaining the factory adaptive headlight feature. I have always had D2S or FX-R projectors in my vehicles. Once you get used to that kind of output, everything else is a disappointment.

One thing to remember, the first thing to do BEFORE...you let the clutch out as you drive away from home...turn OFF...the Dynamic Stability Control. Push the toggle up or down until the amber light comes on in the gauges.
The brakes will last longer and the car WILL be a LOT more fun to drive.
This is from an 05, JCW owner.

I think was meant for me in another thread. Is that the DCS switch?

On topic for this thread Joie looks awesome. My 5 year old named mine Emmy today.

cooper48 07-19-2019 07:15 AM

Yes, the DSC switch. DSC works (via the ECU) to modulate fuel delivery, timing and sometimes braking under extreme conditions. I have the DSC in my R53 modified to auto-off upon startup. I prefer to manage the way my car responds rather than letting the ECU do it.

Mine doesnt have a light on the toggle, but it has a dummy light on the dash that comes on when i shut it off. I hope that is normal.
