New R56S Owner

Hey guys wanted to pop in and introduce myself. Just picked up my first R56S last week, been wanting one for as long as I can remember and finally stumbled across one locally that ticked enough of the boxes to pull the trigger. 2011 British Racing Green Cooper S, 6 spd, original owner with 75k miles. Only issues out of the box are some cosmetic things, driver door sill is peeling, couple door dings and such but mechanically sound (I hope...). I had it inspected by a local Mini specialty shop who said the only things mechanically were that it was due for an oil change, has a leaky drain plug and possibly a seeping pan.

I used to do an AutoX every couple of months but haven't been in years, first time behind the wheel of the mini though the itch was back so I'm sure I'll be seeing one eventually. Not planning to go crazy with modding as I'd like to keep it reliable as possible but I've already been looking for a roadmap of things to change.
So far I think I'm looking at a 19mm rear swaybar, Bushings all around, braided brake lines, slotted rotors and some pads that actually bite as the stockers leave a lot to be desired. As far as power it's odd, it seems like it pulls harder under partial throttle than full. Hoping this isn't an early indication of a HPFP showing its age. But provided it's not will aim for a turbo back exhaust, DDM intake and a Stage II tune. Might add a W/M kit to make it a bit safer under boost, need to do some more digging on the reliability of these engines at those power levels. I'm not looking to push the envelope but I definitely want some more power out of it, don't want to be rebuilding a blown engine though, over that. But first and foremost is a dang Bi-xenon conversion because I can't see a damn thing with these headlights.

Hmm maybe that small list isn't as small as I thought? Oh well guess that's the name of the game haha.

Welcome to NAM. Any pictures?

Check out the Gen2 sections, should have enough info there on your mod list.

Welcome to the club. Picked up a 13 MCS a couple of months ago and enjoying the ride. You might want to look into acquiring a BMW/Mini specific fault code tool, (using Carly app myself). Have come to discover that these cars like to throw fault codes and limp conditions.

Hi and welcome to the NAM family!
Your story is typical. Once you try it, you must buy it!
Show us some pics.

Pictures added to first post, I'll grab a shot or two of the interior in the daylight but it's mint. Thanks for the heads up on the reader, I have a E-sys cable and Carly reader on the way lol.

Hah that is another project I have going. It's a full restoration, I stripped it down to bare chassis, re upholstered the interior the whole nine yards. Currently she sits waiting for me to get around to yanking the motor and sending it off to find out why it has 0 compression in Cyl 5. She's setup to make ~600whp at all 4 and fought me 90% of the way, think there's more blood around that car than grease now. If you wanna take a look at the build thread I can link it in but I'm not sure on the rules of linking to a different forum.

you will feel like a free spirit driving the Mini in comparison to the Blue whale of a Mitsu 3k!

*Both nice rides ;)

Great Mini find. A Mini will be more fun to toss around, especially in AutoX, or around the hills right out of the box. Not much modding required for that... tossability (is that even a word?) comes pretty much standard from the Mini factory, but do run those tires at suggested pressure for best results. I found that our Mini is really sensitive to that.

Also, great looking work on that now Blue Mitsu. Wow. Heck of a quality looking project. Hope you get everything sorted!
