Exactly! Twist it up, paint it black and get vendor status!

I'll fit it with an O-Ring to seal out moisture and dirt, then grind the head down as much as I can to achieve a flat look and paint it black myself.
Um... I'm "pushing" nothing - I just thought I'd mention that I was personally happy with that solution. Of course, I wouldn't have ordered such an expensive antenna as the PU in the first place... Glad you have a solution that will work for you (although I'm still rooting for you to get a refund).

As long as this thread is still going on, can someone tell me the thread size for the antennae stud? Thanks.

Try it now, it should be fixed. (of course, make sure you're beyond the 2-minute grace period)

I'm definitely no expert in the field of anodization...in fact, I had never heard of it before six months ago. Now I have a couple of things that are anodized. They both look more like the black antenna with chips...texture and everything. My anodized things chip easily too. I used a black permanent marker to hide the chips. I'm not saying that the second stubby you received is definitely anodized, but I think it's highly likely that it is.

To my eyes, the antenna on the left looks obviously painted and the one on the right looks anodized. What are the two things you have that you believe to be anodized?

Anodization forms a layer so thin that it does not create its own texture like paint does. I'm trying to think of some common anodized objects that might be familiar to most people. Maglite metal flashlights have an anodized finish, as does the new (2nd gen) iPod Nano. Maybe others could think of examples that are even more common.

My Alta stubby antenna and the M7 strut tower brace. My stubby doesn't really look like either of PU's on this thread. It's just black...no fading at all. My M7 STB, on the other hand, looks a lot like the black PU antenna (the one with chips). The M7 STB has a rough texture, and it also gets chips like that too (it actually came with some chips)...a little permanent marker (as long as it's a small area) and you can't really tell though. Neither of these are like maglites and other anodized things you might buy at a store. Those things look dyed...you can almost see the metal through the dye...if that makes sense. These two products that I own don't really look like that at all to me. Of course, I'm no expert...and I haven't seen his antenna in person to compare it to the M7 STB.

Update....

I received an unsolicited message from a representative of Mini Madness to call them on their toll free number to discuss the matter. I called and spoke to George who did confirm there was a run of painted antennas. George went on to inform me a new run of anodized antennas is in the works and one will be sent to me once Mini Madness has them in hand.

I did ask if they would want me to send back others and was told that is not required. Once received I will update again.

....snip

Why not just use a set screw? Then use a plastic body panel plug to seal the top off nice and smooth.

Update...

After speaking to George at Mini Madness it was stated that new properly anodized units were on the way. That was about 3 weeks ago. As of today still nothing. Will update again in a few weeks if there is news or not.

Is that all it takes these days?

I'd love to be Sir Maxwell, in that case.
